My hand is useless, will it get better??

I honestly posted this thread because of my hand. I could have just written; "My hand seems to have sustained an injury during a lengthy ride over the weekend from riding the clutch. Has anyone encountered this?" But that's not my style, sorry! Haha! This is way more interesting anyway. You guys are hilarious!!! Good laugh for sure!!

Don't you be talking that silly nonsense... :p

Your other posts imply you have small hands. Sounds like you were chronically extending your thumb to keep it on the grip while reaching for the clutch with your fingers.

Is it still in an extended position?

No, but I had to massage it and keep putting it back down after I rode! It was like a dead hook. Weird. After I massaged it for a while it would work a bit. Today I couldn't do up buttons or zippers, open things or pick things up with it, very inconvenient and I got a little worried it may not recover. Hoping it will be better tomorrow.

I'm guessing either pre-MD, MD or physical therapist/rehab practitioner of some sort.

Guilty as charged, sort of, actually MD and PhD (of course unlike some other GTAM members in my case the latter is not a comment on the girth of the equipment 'though i have yet to see anybody who is bragging actually posting pics...)

OMG!!!

What about handjobs?! For the love of God can you still give handjobs???

NOOO! I can't!!! Good thing I am single, phew!

Umm, that's exactly what partners are for. Get with the program.

But, get it checked, you might start compensating and messing up other parts like I did.

Lol, no worries - we here at GTAM don't actually do anything remotely as noble as your chosen profession (it had been a long while since I had heard medical terms being used), we only trade snappy .sigs and talk about the length of our shafts.

Red, Chungd suggested something I and others had guessed at (i.e. my guess was grounded in things I used to know, while Chungd's is grounded in what he does every day):

In any case I am with dr_sarcasm, go see someone sooner than later unless it has completely resolved by now.

If you still don't have feeling in that thumb, and it's been a couple of days already, book that appointment with a doctor...

Dont worry being an MD and PHD i am sure you make up for it in your brain. But i do find it odd a male would request pics of male genetalia.

if your hand is just really weak but there's no pain, and no loss of sensation, my GUESS (and it is that) is that your small hand muscles at the base of the thumb (opponens pollicis, abductor pollicis brevis and flexor pollicis brevis) are completely exhausted and need a couple days of rest and gentle massage from the other hand to recover.

If you cannot move the thumb across the palm at all, however, you may have a case of motor neuron neuropraxia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuropraxia
A portion of the median nerve that allows communication with these muscles in the hand may have become slightly damaged (bruised if you will) from the extended period of ongoing pounding and gripping from the prolonged riding and may have temporarily lost its ability to transmit nerve signals from the main trunk of the nerve. Neuropraxia is a very mild form of nerve damage (on a microscopic level) and function should return after a couple to a few days of rest (no compression, no gripping, etc.)

since this is the internet and not real advice, go see your doctor if you are concerned, or if function doesn't come back within a day

I believe the proper procedure if a woman is injured to the point where she can't make sammiches is to put her down as painlessly as possible. A 12 gauge to the back of the head should work.

Kind of like when a horse injures it's leg and can't stand.

:lmao::laughing3::lmao::laughing3::lmao::laughing3::lmao::laughing3::lmao::laughing3::lmao:

You DO realize that you're messing with a Ginger, don't you?!?

A swift change of local is now in order, get packing.

(Almost) very perceptive Sir...had another good laugh on this thread,

however, if you go back it was actually Red who requested your pic or otherwise she would call BS. I did not, I simply reflected upon not having seen said evidence so far...that's significantly different (on the other hand English is my third language so I am willing to be corrected...)

yea you got to let it rest for a bit.......

Massageing after the ride isn't gonna get you up riding any faster for the most part.
Its a weird thing indeed......
Just get up make something to eat, have something to drink, wait about 30 min or so, and then give it another shot.

I find that after a little break, and some food/drink, then you can go back to a massage and be back on riding in no time again........

ohh crap...... were you still talking about motorcycles??? My mind wandered off a bit I think

My hand is better today, phew! I thought for sure that someone would tell me its normal and happens to new riders. Thanks for all the info/advice and hilarity!! I massaged the crap out of it and put some heat on, held it under the hot tub jets, it seems at least 30% better. I didn't want to have to see a dr. so I was highly motivated. It's at least good enough for me to be able to make sandwiches again so I won't have to be become an old spinster.

You guys are awesome btw, so funny!!

Oh and hi Matthew, I know your reading this :lmao:
