MTO clerks can be just plain unfair

If it is any consolation, I have never seen any MTO clerk give a crap about the 7 days limitation on the transfer. If the worse happens and they reject it on that basis, just take the paperwork to another office.

Haha how could they even know? I bought a bike and didn't transfer it for a solid 3 months while I worked on it, so I could still get it temp plated.

The bill of sale / ownership is supposed to be dated. Just about every transaction I've ever done, the seller conveniently left it blank...

Heh, for my first bike they didn't even ask for a bill of sale. I had one, and it was indeed dated, but I wanted to put down a lower purchase price ;)

I thought that towing and shipping of vehicles are both based on pick up/drop off and rate per kilometer/mile. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It is.

But you are referring to a major transport company that can haul multiple items on a regular basis throughtout the midwest for $600 .. compared to say myself with a pickup/trailer doing the same run.

Probably not something you should admit to on a public forum where I'm sure someone is watching....

A mistake or alteration of any digit in the VIN# or date on a safety certificate makes it no good. Don't blame the clerk, if the MTO looks at that certificate and sees an alteration or that it is wrong then she could lose her job as she did not follow MTO rules. That is why when they get the certificate they have to enter their operator number in the top right of the certificate and that states they verified the form is correct. Her *** is on the line if she lets it go. So don't blame the clerk, she is protecting her job and although it inconveniences you blame the guys at GP Bikes they filled out the paperwork wrong and it is their fault.

I would never say I bought my bike for $1.

...or would I :confused2:

This sh*t story hasn't ended yet. I decided to show some patience and not go to the other MTO office. GP Bikes had promised to courier a fresh safety slip overnight. Well, it didn't make it. I phoned them today before 5:00 and the Service Manager said he accidently put the wrong postal code on the package. Maybe he's telling the truth but I'm sure as hell not getting my bike certified at another shop in Barrie while I wait. Meanwhile tomorrow is 7 days after the sale....

What happens if we barter? "Had my fence painted and lawn mowed."

It would probably work in writing :D ...I don't know how it would work for cars though cause they actually have a textbook value.

A textbook value???
you pay the higher of the declared or bluebook value

You have clearly not dealt with a "technician" at the California DMV. Count on waiting two hours on hold, to be told to visit an office and wait in line for two hours if you don't make an appointment two weeks in advance.

And then repeat the whole process again because the technician was bored and decided to have a little excitement by screwing up your license.

I would relax a bit about the 7 days. They are not going to impound your bike if you register 10 days or 3 months later. And from what I hear about weather in Toronto, you're probably not going to be riding for a while.

^This.

I just registered a bike yesterday. Date on the paperwork was Jan 18th. Nobody even blinked. The last vehicle I registered was about 3 months after the sale date.

Was it the one on Burton?

Nothing but issues at that one.
It was the one at the Mall on Bayfield. It was a woman at the 'dealer' desk on the far left. Maybe I would have fared better with someone else but it's too late now. Waiting for the new slip to arrive this week....

I know it is a pain. But do NOT become concerned about the 7 day reg. You can easily show you TRIED to get it registered within that time frame, but through NO fault of yours it became delayed. The Service Ontario clerk was, (again it pisses us off when it happens to us), just doing her job. Think about it, would you risk losing your job over something trivial, like this? She likely doesn't even know where GP Bikes is in relation to Barrie and figured it was a quick run back to the dealership get a corrected form and bang your done.

I would be calling the manager at GP and tell him of the issues and that IF there is an issue your holding the dealership responsible and that their training program in the service department obviously needs so more work. Both for the technician AND the service manager.
