Motorcycle Trials

This is the only video I found from Ganaraska ... https://youtu.be/7HNWykffALI

Looks a little better than Horseshoe, but still looks like lot of hopping on a flat surface ... Anyway, to my inexperience eye, Cambridge is the most desirable, and comes apparently with Rick-knows-me discount too.

Decision has been made.

looks like that video is from the paddock at the Trail Tours property. They have those logs and a couple small bumps on a circular track which they use to gauge rider ability for their regular dirt bikes

ATA did a trials events at the Horseshoe site, it's on the back side of a ski slope so more elevation there then you might expect. Cambridge would be a good start point but you really owe it to yourself to seek out some serious rock, nice big bald rock outcrops are total traction and you can do amazing things when you have total traction on a Trials bike.

Wow, just watched the video, yep that's pretty flat :| This is Beachburg which is probably under water right now:

and this is my back yard near Arden:

Trials is correct about the rocks and the traction.Tons of fun to be had.Honestly you can'y go wrong with either school.Clinton is great too.He gave my daughter a bit of schooling a few years ago after a trial on one of his bikes. He saw her sitting on my Ossa in the pits, without a helmet and said "oh no you don't Dad".May i? Topnotch guy!

This place looks different than the parking lot with shipping containers ... hmmm ... maybe Clint has options out there. I will stop by in spring when going riding SCORRA trails to Simcoe.

Well that would be desireable, if I ever make the next step and that is getting a trial bike. Not there yet ...

Sorry, that video was taken at St George south of Cambridge at a SOVT trial Clinton was attending. It's on Scenic Drive.Fantastic location. Both the SOVT and the ATA have trials there.

I see.

Good used bikes are not easy to find. There are more out west.I have heard that it isn't really expensive to ship them here. http://www.trialscanada.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/index.cgi?mode=view&viewcategory=Trials_Bikes

Like any used bike in Ontario ... the most delusional bike market in the world, did you not know?

I mean this seller think his bike appreciated in value, I guess .... https://www.kijiji.ca/v-dirt-bikes-...ke/1322853031?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Right above nice EVO 200 ... for the same price .... LOL

That is actually a pretty good price.I know the builder personally. He built the TY175 that my daughter rides and several others pretty much the same every sunday in the season. There are a LOT of hours and parts into it.It will be gone by spring at that price.

Here it is at the Supershow last weekend.

Unless someone needs that specific vintage trial ... I don't know. How do you square that price with the 2010 EVO 200, once you leave the "vintage" factor behind.

I've had few older bikes myself I imported and fixed which I considered unique myself, but always knew that you simply cannot recover parts and labour you put into them, especially here in Ontario. Not exactly hot-bed of anything on two wheels ....

A LOT of labor! This is what someone usually starts with when finding a 42 year old bike. It's all about what you want to do with it.A lot of folks like to compete on vintage bikes because they did 40 years ago..I personally prefer to ride modern.

Modern bikes let you do so much more and they don't hurt near as bad when they land on you.

... buy Amy's bike, then she can get a new one!

I will not buy anything else than modern ... if I do. Not sure what modern means in terms of model year cut-off, but I am guessing 2010 with no problem to get parts in the future. Anyway, getting ahead of myself a bit here ... :)

Modern means not twin shock.
Anything Montesa since 2005 is a Honda powered 4RT and virtually all of the parts are interchangeable with the one they still make today. (Pistons and rings etc. excluded seeing as they now offer it in 260cc and 300cc but you could swap the entire motor and it would fit right in there.)
