Motorcycle industry is in deep trouble and needs help fast

If our glorious government would create affordable insurance costs and legalize filtering, I'm sure the market here would be huge, just like anywhere else in this world besides NA

That's going to mean improving driver (and rider) training, a more stringent graduated licensing system (like the UK, for example), get a handle on the Insurance Fraud/Scam Economy in Ontario (i.e. those that profit hugely by artificially inflating claim severities, prolonging needless therapies at ridiculous rates etc), getting real about distracted driving and so on. That's a big ask.

Oooooo I like it, let's ask!

Yeah its a big ask, let's do nothing about it then and keep reading about how motorcycles are dying out

what does insurance have anything to do with this?? its cold here half the year, most people find it impractical to ride when its cold.....ye, I know "heated gear, dress for the weather, I ride till it snows....blah blah blah" but the average Joe isn't interested in any of that **** and would much rather have his heated seats on while sipping a latte on his way home in mid November/

the fact is motorcycling is a leisure activity in North America, not unlike boating, RVing, snowmobiling etc.......so tell me, what d'hell does the government care about leisure activities??? and why should it go out of its way to legalise filtering, or lower insurance rates off of which it collects taxes??

People talk **** about millennials travelling instead of spending $$ on bikes, but IMO they have it right, get out, see the world, learn new concepts, there is a whole world out there that thinks and lives differently, and many of them have different priorities than the average Canadian or American, and a lot of them live better and happier lives than we do. Travelling (not to be confused with vacationing) is an invaluable experience to someone who is just starting out their life, they are more likely to learn the lessons they didn't learn as bubble wrapped kids while backpacking thru Latin America, Europe or Asia, than they are to learn them at LnL. /rant

now back to warm helmets and pine cones

Idk why are motorcycles so popular in Europe even though they have winters? Motorcycling is a sport or leisure here because there is no other reason, there's NO incentive to ride a motorcycle, you are only penalized doing so

Population?

Right so it should be even easier for us to get to their level and implement what they have on a much smaller scale. Once you spend some time in London and realize how good their motorcycling system is there, you want to bang your head off the wall and ask yourself why you ride even ride here

good point :( buzz kill

... backpacking thru Latin America, Europe or Asia ...
k, that parts just dumb, we live in Canada, there is no better place to go backpacking then Canada, lots of Euros would love to come here to do just that, their country is completely trashed and ours is practically virgin.

How much backpacking have you done?

Lots, I come from a family of field naturalists.

Right,..........different backpscking..........you might want to google backpacking thru Europe, Asia etc as a form of low cost travel, rather than spotting the spotted owl in Algonquin.

The changes in question happen with elections.

I spent most of today helping setup a booth at the Supershow.I've been doing this for a few different organizations for quite a few years and this year doesn't look smaller than years past.So is the industry in trouble?

Changes that would benefit motorcyclists and the industry would require political lobbying/power. We and the industry have zero power which is why, since 1990 and having seen governments from all three major parties -- NDP, PCs and Liberals -- we have seen little to no legislation or action to aid us in any way, shape or form.

According to StatsCan there are ~220,000 motorcycles and mopeds registered in Ontario. We probably could form a decently powerful political lobby to advance our cause(s). In 2015-16 there were "only" 124,000 "FTE" (full-time equivalent) teachers in Ontario. They wield significant political power because they're organized and politically (over)active. We could probably muster similar numbers of motorcycle enthusiasts (and spouses and significant others and friends etc) into a vocal bloc but we're too lazy, too disorganized and, as demonstrated in this thread, too busy fighting each other over stupid **** to organize effectively.

Ya, you are talking about staying in a youth hostel and hitch hiking, I'm talking about camping in the woods :/ and Spotted Owl is not indigenous to Algonquin Park, they are a Western bird so that would really be something to see.
