Motorcycle gear - Who wears all black?

Another vote for all black, but only because I've found lighter coloured gear to get filthy and after awhile the oil, road grime, sweat etc become impossible to wash out and I end up looking like a hobo.

Highly tempted to get a white Harley and gold helmet for my next purchases as maybe drivers will mistake me for a popo and exercise a little more caution, lol....

Calls himself Mr. Safety,
Calls everyone else an idiot for not wearing hiviz and being like him.
Wears an open-face helmet when more than 35% of head injuries happen to the chin/face area and by far the most dangerous spot on the head to leave exposed:

Thanks Mr. Safety with 37 years of being Mr. Safe, perhaps you are the one that needs to reconsider their apparel?

Edit -- should I bother mentioning the no glasses/visor/googles? Isn't being able to see more important than being seen?

Open face helmet at night in the summer...

I live out here in the country and I definitely wear a hi-vis jacket.
But then again I mostly wear it so that police will think, "Hey, he is wearing hi-vis, so the rider must be safety conscious. So, they couldn't possibly be riding at the speed my radar says they are. Something must be wrong with the radar." :-)

That's good. Same with hard cased old aircooled adventure bikes. Couldn't possibly be up to no good. Pulling off a helmet to reveal a visage north of 50 can help as well.

A full face helmet is safer. Too bad you're not open enough to see the hi-viz point. I hope I don't see you in the ditch as I go by.

So now speeding and wearing all black is going to land us in ditches or cut in half? This thread keeps getting better. Did you know that the highest rate of fatalities on bikes here are guys aged 45 to 55 on not sport bikes? You know.... the crowd who knows it all and typically don't wear full faced lids.

That's sort of to be expected anyways given that more than half of all riders are in that demographic, tend to ride longer distances, tend to ride in rural areas where average speeds are higher, and have older bodies that do not handle or recover from catastrophic injuries as easily.

I didn't realize being younger allowed recovering from catastrophic injuries. Lighten up will you guys. It's supposed to be a discussion to keep us safer. I didn't mean anything personal - these are objective comments. Wear what you want. Done

or are the crowd above learning because they know it all. I had one of these fools scoff at me for being hot in the city a week ago because, and I quote "you sport bike guys need to learn from us. We don't need all that gear on these (harley) because we know what we're doing" I almost fell off my bike I was laughing so hard at this moron. I'd bet you money after watching him go a few blocks in front of me that I could ride circles blindfolded around him. Thats a common thing with that age group. Few guys at work ride and I'm the only one with gear. I get power ranger, terminator suit etc all the time. Every single one of them needs a course, but hey they've been riding since the 70s and know it all

while i agee with you ( I'm 67 and wear gear appropriate...not atgatt tho I am today ...) cruisers have a low accident rate.

Whether its the limits of the machines or the riders - they don't push every corner the way sports bike riders do. ( much to my annoyance in PA getting stuck behind a Hardley train ).
They are out to enjoy the weather and scenery and form long annoying lines. :D

They think you a re silly for riding a crotch rocket all geared up ....you think them silly for riding cruisers with no gear

it is what it is ...different goals.

I and many riders sit in the middle on adventure or touring bikes and some are atgatt and some like me atgta ( all the gear that's appropriate )

As to age groups.....there are riders twice your age that could ride you into the ground off road or on....and put 1,000 km days back to back.
Experience counts big time in riding. Being good at gymkana doesn't mean you are a safe or long lived rider.
Only time will tell that.

You are in a very narrow group of sports bike riders, with high insurance premiums that unfortunately cost us all due to the accident rate.....don't get all uppity about others who have different goal sets and skill sets.

Walk in looking like darth vader...expect some teasing....sign of maturity when you can grin and bear it ;)

Younger bodies are more resilient for a variety of reasons. Younger bodies are also far less likely to see secondary complications following a crash, such as stroke or heart attack.

We are all very well aware of the consequences of riding and using gory images to make your point is dumb, like mothers would say to their kids throwing a tantrum, use your words
