Motorcycle gear - Who wears all black?

It seems like the past few days I've seen a number of 'black knight' riders. I don't get it.

Just like I don't get haters on the internetz.

I had one do the same.. when I questioned her if she saw me in the HiViz vest on the bright Orange bike and why she still pulled out in front of me, she said "yes. but I thought you would change to the other lane..."

SMH... What a lame excuse!

Arrr thar mateys. Baby Kiwi, me parrot, says:

One must exhibit at least a Jolly Roger or two on one's black paraphernalia,
to reflect one's pretentiousness, pedantry and frippery. ;)

I'm surprised that motorcycle cops are not required to wear ATGATT... including HiViz. I saw a Peel Region officer on a motorcycle A few back wearing a half helmet, non-armoured short sleeve shirt/pants and boots.

The police are continuously pushing Safety, Safety, Safety... and yet they take risks themselves... Not a Good Example!!!

My black leather coat lights up in any light around due to the built in reflection. Gets pretty bright.

I wear all black (boots, pants, jacket, gloves, helmet, socks, underwear, etc etc etc), and now my main bike is black, with a dark tinted windscreen and a black topbox.

The only time I've ever been hit in the last 250,000km was when the driver and I were both stopped, in broad daylight in rush-hour traffic, due to the guy's foot falling off the brake and onto the gas while he was contorting himself to mess with something in the passenger seat. Oh, and that bike was blue.

And lots of those klicks were at night.

Maybe I'm playing with fire, or maybe the hysterics around wearing all black are a bit exaggerated. *shrug*

That's awesome. You wouldn't happen to be negro because that would take the cake?

To the example of the woman driver pulling out in front: My reply would have been either: 1) and I thought you had a brain OR 2) I suggest for everyone's safety you stay in the kitchen. Maybe politically incorrect, but so is life with no spine or legs. I don't wear shorts.

Um, people are actively scanning for and avoiding traffic cops.
They're also highly trained in their riding.

I would imagine that you're more likely to hit a fire truck or ambulance than a motorcycle cop.

No matter how good they are (and they are) F' ups happen.

... The best points I usually get from them are the following:

1. There is no debating Hi Viz is more visible than all black at night.

2. Don't ride motorcycles, they are dangerous.

3. If you ride motorcycles, wear whatever you want but be aware of the consequences.

Feel free to add more.

All good points. I'd add the oft quoted "Ride like you're invisible", which we are.

Recently the fines were doubled and speeds halved for travelling in an active construction zone. The construction guys wear hi-vis and really, no one gives a care. In a well marked and sometimes controlled area, they still get hit. High-vis is no panacea for negligent drivers.

Kiwi, if you wore all black and wore your carbon fiber knuckled gloves and looked like you'd kick the crap out of the driver, then maybe drivers might pay more attention? it is a theory. Car drivers should yield for things that may cause them harm (18 wheeler included), and maybe all black gear can contribute to our cause.

This is a Canada-wide phenomenon. European cops leather up in high viz and full face helmets and ride much lighter, faster bikes.
The CDN cops claim they need to avoid gear so they can chase criminals on foot, ..yet we have the most obese police forces in the world, so that ain't happening.
Of course, the union has a sweet disability package.

Unless you are a goose.

This guy was almost killed and lost his leg after hitting a goose during a VIP training session. He was knocked out on the bike because of his 1970s Chips half-face. As he was a Golden Helmet, the elite.
So much for advanced training.

If anything, riding those Harley tanks with a whopping 25 degrees of lean would require more gear, but according to the OPP, there has not been any safety advances in motorcycle gear in 40+ years? They dress exactly like the 70s and still ride those overweight bikes with low pipes and low, hard luggage.
Again, the rest of the world has moved on.

Get after your council and police board then.

The gear is there. The bikes are there. It's just a matter of prioritization.

Bike is primary black, secondary gold, tertiary silver.

I am mostly black...enough that some random van full of teenagers asked if I was related to the Stig lol

So to add to my point about hi visibility adding to our riding safety, I had my wife and daughter tail me and take some video and pics while riding in the dark. So the vest isn't style cool, but to me it's SAFETY cool. Notice the LED license frame, reflective strips, engine lights, front Pii highway lights...I'm very visible according to my wife, a former Honda Interceptor, and 650 V-Star Classic owner. Are there car drivers still unconscious? Sure there are. I just want to up the odds. When I was a kid, a neighbourhood friend had a bike and had a riding mishap and lost his legs. Not cool my friends!

It would probably be beneficial to have markings on the helmets as well.
It looks good though, for a 5 year old test/video.
It's nice to see them using Joe Rocket as their jackets.

Do we know what has happened since?

I wear black gear, I feel fine. If they can't see me, they can't try and kill me, it's work so far.
Just wondering whose motorcycle gear is all black or is going for the murdered out look. How do you feel when all your gear is black and you are literally a blind spot on the road. We all know it looks cool but self consciously do you feel you are more in danger?
