MotoGP 2014

Very. I like Aleix. Hopefully he can keep it up when the racing starts.

-Colin Edwards on the 2014 Bridgestone tire

The fact Espargaro has been beating the works bikes consistently is impressive.

Hes pretty much on a factory bike, with a generic ECU. Yamaha even said that their open class bike is last years factory bike. I think Honda screwed themselves out of more top finishes by not doing the same.

I still don't quite understand that Yamaha/FTR relationship for that bike.

The basic idea, Yamaha Managing Director Lin Jarvis told the press, was to supply engines, plus 'a basic chassis package' to the Forward team, to allow them to get started on their own project. Forward have a contract with FTR to build a chassis to house the Yamaha engine, but given the lateness of the hour - the original plan for Yamaha was to have all the contracts wrapped up at Assen, at the end of June - it was decided to provide a little help. Next year (This Year), Forward will receive sufficient material to supply two riders with engines, plus a 'standard chassis' and swingarm. Suspension, wheels, fairings, tank and airbox will all be the responsibility of Forward.

What a mess... it's turning into F1. Stifling development by imposing too many rules and limitations. In some cases it makes the racing better, but the racing was pretty amazing back in 2003-2006...

I dont think they would have done this had Ducati not decided to run "open" at the last minute.

No, you're absolutely right... but I still think Aleix has a better chance of winning than Cal does at the moment.

This is what really stands out:

“The proposal which has been made relates to Open entry manufacturers achieving podium results, specifically three third positions, two second places or one victory, in dry race conditions. They would then have certain limitations applied relating to the Open class (22.5 litres of fuel reduced from 24) and less engines available (the total reduced from 12 to 9),” states Alonso, Dorna Managing Director and Race Direction member.

Honda (and Yamaha, I presume) complain that Ducati isn't adhering to the spirit of the rules, as if they're guidelines or suggestions. They're rules, and they are being played within. It's strategy.

Honda seems to be the only one really complaining. I really hope Aleix is able to consistently mix it up with the honda satellite bikes, Dani and Marc might be out of reach.
