Motogp 2013

See that is the thing, he didn't race more than 10 complete laps, 10.9 laps is still 10 laps since a lap is not over until the beginning of the next

10.9 laps means 10 are finished and he's on his 11th lap. He acknowledged this too after. He had to come in at the end of lap 10 the latest which would mean having completed 9.9 laps.

huu?? no, it means he has gone around 9 times and is on his way to completely go around the track for the 10th time. Depending on his pit location, he could already be on his second bike when he crossed the line to start lap 11.

I am not saying the decision was right or wrong, I am explaining the reason why MM's team went with that strategy

I think mm screwed up and in the heat of the moment forgot to pit.

As soon as Jorge pulled into the pits in front of him, Marques probably mumbled "aw ****" in his helmet.

Watch this video very carefully at the 20 second mark. You will se Lorenzo coming in to pit and MM passing by pit lane. Now watch the crew of Repsol watch MM ride right by the pit. They were waiting for him had the bike ready and a small pitboard to indicate where he is to stop and change bikes.

The red haze was on and he messed up.

What I'm saying is he had already started his 11th lap and was at the end of "11 of 19" when he came in. So he had done 10.9 laps on the tires.

I think the punishment was too harsh either way.

What ever happened to pedrosas penalty? They were saying he'd have to drop a position? They changed their minds?

We have a basic Math disagreement but let's move on.

Pedrosa dropped a position from 2nd to 3rd behind Marquez and then when Marquez was Black flagged he re-took the 2nd spot. he got lucky he didn't have to drop behind Valentino who was 6 sec behind.

See that is the thing, he didn't race more than 10 complete laps, 10.9 laps is still 10 laps since a lap is not over until the beginning of the next lap, hence why its called a lap and not .9 of a lap.

I agree that Honda should have gotten clarification from race direction before making that decision, but the whole thing was a cluster ****

He raced more than 10 laps. Period. That's why he was DQd. Scoring and timing for completed laps is a lot different than determining a safe lifespan for a tire. I don't know what exactly that document stated but the EuroSport guys made it seem pretty clear that riders needed to exit the track on either the 9th or 10th lap.

yea but it makes it a lot closer, if Mark had finished in 2nd, the difference would be 38 points meaning that if Marquez crashed on any of the next 2 races, he would still be ahead.

Still his to lose, but he has to have 2 perfect races, but so does Lorenzo!

I don't see how it's close, by any realistic measure. MM would have to finish 3rd or worse in the next two races assuming JL wins them, yet he's consistently the leader of the breakaway top 3. The most likely scenario for an upset at this point is for MM to score another DNF somehow, and the most realistic way for that to happen is if you jinx him again by prematurely celebrating his championship win!

It seems as though Marquez would be better off if you cheered for Lorenzo :p

Keep it up and I will start cheering for you. Damn, now it's my fault MM got DQ :( bad zx bad zx

I recall that at one point both Lorenzo and Marquez put board read '6 laps' at the same time as it was being counted down and JL was in the lead as they passed the straight.

Also they both would've known Pedrosa came in ahead of them, which IMO would've meant they would have to the next lap.

Also seeing video footage, you can see MM's crew confused by him staying out.

I think MM was too focused on passing JL and being in top spot that he wanted to keep going.

Anyway it's made for an exciting championship and I for one don't mind, I'm tired of seeing champions crowned 2-4 races before the final.
And for this reason I applaud today's race (don't need to watch another F1 Redbull type run away), needless to say it was a cracker.

I was confused when it happened as he pitted on lap 10 but it kind of makes sense now.

Either way, they should not have DQd him. A ride-through would have been more than enough of a penalty.

The DQ just makes me think they are trying to close up the championship to make up for the cluster **** that has been this weekend.

Did anyone else notice the laser pointer on JLo's visor at the start?WTF!
Its the shiftlight/lights on the dash.

Well, found out why my video never made it. Even though it was a private upload, youtube sent my video to Dorna to have them confirm it was theirs before "finishing processing" it after 12 hours, lol. I had such a sweet sweet setup for it too. Guess I'll have to figure something else out for the next race :(

Dash light or lazer pointer....more conspiracy ;)

Even though I had this recorded, do you still upload the vids on a server as mp4's? Would like to watch pass episodes :D

Marquez's domination in the second half of the season is no Ferrari Schumacher or Redbull Vettel.

Marquez caught a lucky break after Lorenzo & Pedrosa's accidents. If they didn't crash, I think we'd have a very close championship finish.

Eurosport commentators also brought up an interesting point regarding the psychological effect this will have on Marquez going forward.

A penalty point is not out of the question either, so if he does get that extra penalty point... he'll be starting at the back of the grid. I wonder if he'll bother setting a decent qualifying lap, knowing he's starting at the back?

Since I got banned a few times from RFM I cancelled my VPS that I used to host the video files. I was never really happy with their upload speed (the speed at which my customers could download the video). I have a new setup where I can direct stream copy the race from the MotoGP.com website and the quality comes out pretty good (it says it's 720p but I have my doubts). For some reason the stream copy records in MPEG2 (huge file size) which I can't understand at all. I tried re-encoding it with adobe pre. but it does something funny with the frame rate. I'll get my "way too big" video file up on a server for some people to download and let me know if the quality is acceptable for future races. I'll try to get it to encode in FLV or other h264 to bring the file sizes down and that should help.

I could of course stream copy all of the old races from MotoGP.com as well. Once I get it working flawless I might do that.

What I was originally going to do was upload it to youtube as a private video (not visible to the public). Grab the direct download links with keepvid.com then post them here. You could download 720p or 480p in nice file sizes from super fast servers, but that won't work out I guess :(

You are forgetting that Marquez crashed also in one race, Lorenzo also only lost one race, so they are even, and now Marquez got DQ, meaning that the only reason MM is stil ahead is because he has accumulated more points than Lorenzo with one less race than him, nothing to do with luck.
