Most dangerous vehicle to bikers?

No, he is trying to talk me out of it though :( Guess I should call him my ex. Weird.

Don't worry, there'll be all kinds of youngun's falling all over themselves vying for your attention should you ever announce that you're back in the dating game.

Only ever got one warning. Usually its tickets. Ive had up to 9 points at my worst. Thankfully havent gotten a ticket since that last one that got me to 9. The last one should be off my license this or next year.

Whoa, I think I had 3 points once.
What was your record like when you started training motorcyclists?
The place I looked at listed a clean record as a prerequisite.

Maybe they were looking for people with experience on what NOT to do when riding a motorcycle...?

We all know they do that. So why would you blame them for your reaction. Why not own up to your own driving habits an adjust to suit. This isn’t new behaviour they exhibit so theres no excuse to be surprised or shocked by it. Blaming them now is kinda silly.

I get pulled over and I completely own up to my own mistakes. Fair and square in my books. I did something wrong and got caught.

It's not my reaction. It's the reactions of everyone around me that are caused by cruisers. The amount of traffic enforcement has gone through the roof in the last decade, so to say they've always been like this is absurd. Parked cruisers and speed traps are dangerously disruptive to the flow of traffic because they distract drivers from the real hazards on the road, each other.

Traffic police don't catch you for doing something wrong, they use their discretion to enforce the law as a means to collect revenue and advertise their powers (showing the colours). Cops are great for a lot of things, but harrassing drivers and interfering with the smooth flow of traffic is not one of them.

it's a bit creepy when someone brings up the police on this board and immediately another poster gets all puffy chested about it, especially with that weird cop-talk about "the consequences are your fault for running afoul of us, you hate cops, you like perverts, you are irrational, etc.." It's all the same style of bully argument designed to isolate a person and make the discussion about them instead of the issue.

Police cruisers are the most disruptive vehicle to traffic on the road and as a result they are the most dangerous to motorcyclists.

Statistcally as a class, they may not cause fatalities that often, or even direct injuries, but they cause insurance increases, roadside seizures, and erratic behaviour in drivers, and this is what makes them so dangerous.

Did you even bother reading what he wrote in everyone of his post. He was never referring to his reaction.

Wow, up to this point I thought the question was just looking for opinions based on our varying experiences. Now it looks like we have the facts. Thanks!

Here I'll take you riding 2up and you'll forget about him

the most dangerous vehicle is the one you're sitting on top of I'd say... statistics probably back that up too

next in line would be cabbies/corollas(i don't need to mention any specific ethnicities, right?), white vans, bmws, mercedes, minivans, etc

It's all about that ///AMG

I'm bored. So I'm going to blahblahblah all over this thread. Ranty rant rant... blah lbhalbhablahbl

Dangerous vehicles are out there but I'd say it more has to do with dangerous drivers who end up driving similar vehicles. Like mini-vans. So I'll make some general assumptions/observations I noticed in my short driving/riding career.

First theory... If you had two cars...One car was indestructible like a tank, but even more so..like Superman on wheels... and the second car was wired with anti-tank mines that would trigger the second anything but the tires touched something. Both cars are exactly the same, both cars are identical in every way except for those things. The assumption is that driving habits would be radically different when operating either vehicle. Would you really chance it tailgating someone if you figured a bump would blow you sky high?

In the normal world...all cars fall somewhere between those extremes. I'm sure 'volvo driver' is up there on everyone's list as a terrible driver. Maybe cuz they feel like the would survive a collision (even subconsciously) and that affects their driving habits. Compare a Smart car vs an Escalade. Chances are you'd feel safer in the house on wheels than the enclosed shopping cart.

And those of us on two wheels...we don't really pose a threat to the car driver cuz we're small. Kinda like a raccoon on the road. You're way more freaked out if you see a deer then a raccoon. Some dude did a study on a bike...one he dressed all black, the next he dress in bright high vis gear, and the third he hopped on a white-police-lookin Harley and dressed up roughly like a moto-cop. Guess which one posed the most threat and people noticed him more?

So here's my blahbbering with some explanations I've made up and then I can pretend that somehow I'm some sort of qualified sociologist/psychologist with my reasoning lol.

1. Safe car drivers... i.e. The Volvo, the giant SUV etc.

They just figure they can do whatever, cuz they won't get hurt. As above.

2. The distracted

White van, soccer mom caravan, business dude in the merc, young lady in her beetle.

The white van dudes are working or booting it home... on the phone, smoking, spilling their coffee, telling jokes, running to the next job site or pick up. They're aware but only on autopilot. However, I find them to be generally good drivers, just don't pay enough attention so when they screw up, it's obvious they didn't see.
Same with soccer mom/stay at home dad. Kids on her mind, gotta drop them off, get the groceries, get to the meeting... or she's by herself and just in her own world finally getting some quiet time.
Business dude... company car... trying to make a buck non-stop in his mind. Us little people are just in the way to the next light.
Young lady texting in her beetle. Or young man...or anyone who can't live without that faking fone. If I told you I'd be there at three...do you really need a text telling you "I'm almost there"? "how long" "5 min" "Ok" "cu" WTF?

3. Everyone you pass is a moron, everyone who passes you is a maniac.

The ones that race from light to light. Going 100 in an 80. 80 in a 60.

SO.... If you drive the whole 407. 100kms approx. And you book it at exactly 100. You'll get there in one hour. Simple yes? So if you go 130km/h, you'll get there in 46 minutes. OoooOOOOhh you saved 14 mins. And you wasted gas... and you probably braked 100 times more then usual... And you probably got stuck behind someone doing 110. And this is on a straight road with NO stops. I don't think you would save more than 3 minutes if you were on city streets. If that.

But no one gets it saves you nothing cuz everyone is just racing. I can't pin point a specific vehicle type for this one. It's everyone who thinks they'll save time.

The redlightrunners.... The "I'm going to sneak in this left hand turn even though the arrow is gone and no one will mind"

MATH TIME!

So... you run the red on a turn to save what... 60 seconds of waiting for another light. Good for you, you are a model citizen of capitalism and taking advantage of a situation presented to you. If you look around...there are what... maybe 20 cars on each side of the road waiting an extra 5 seconds for you to get through the red. So.. 40 cars, times 5 seconds. 200 seconds. So... now we're at a 140 second deficit on the amount of time it takes to get through an intersection. Multiply that by how many intersections you go through and how many times you wait for an idiot to save him/herself a few seconds. Then look and see how everyone races and changes lanes just to get to the next red for another idiot to waste your time again.

I think it's a cause of everyone thinking they're in it alone. On two wheels, you kinda get the feeling that you're in this together... the car puts you into a place where you're all alone, against everyone else.

Oh, and people that roll stop signs just plain annoy me. Stop. You have modern brakes. It's not that hard.

4. Drunks, tokers.

Find some friends. And then you can change up who's going to get wasted and who's driving. And I can smell your weed when I'm behind you. Your driving around... how much fun can that be stoned? Go to a movie..or maybe a concert? Those are way more fun high then driving around.
I find the worse ones are the ones who are clearly driving a parent's car, with a few more brilliant friends in the car. But in general, as stats show, there is no clear demographic for DUI.

5. The Maxima, the Camry, the 328i, the Altima, the G35, entry level luxury cars.

This one is one I've noticed recently. I guess that some of these drivers feel like they're entitled to drive aggressively and without regard for others. They "made it". They've got enough cash to buy a nice ride. It's not awesome in regards to cars, but they've made enough to splurge a bit...get some fun out of life cuz they break heads at work. They have no qualms about walking all over people to get where they wanna go. Maybe bend a couple of rules to get there. Perhaps this is being taken out on the streets. Add to that they're very safe cars with hp to feel powerful and a couple of phone calls here and there.

Ok... I would write more, but now I'm bored of this. And I'm sure you've been bored to death reading (if you actually read it... or like me, look at a long post and are like...f-this... who's going to read this essay?)

Keep riding safe... keep your vision and awareness like a flood light, less like a spot light. (what is that...keith code? whatever...its good advice, and good practice while driving)

All good points and number 3 is SPOT ON.

Exactly what are you smoking? I wouldn't expect a minivan to be first off the line if it was the ONLY vehicle at a stop light.

Sorry for the late reply...

It has been my consistent experience, that if there are two cars side by side at a light and I'm pulling up behind them, the mini van will ALWAYS accelerate faster than the other car. No matter if the other car is a Porsche, sedan, compact, truck... the mini van will always accelerate to about 15-20km/h over the speed limit because they are either late to their family outting, the soccer game, or home depot. They're always in a rush and always the car to be behind when you yourself want to go fast. :)
