more tech we don't need

The razor collection - Never seen one like the Wilkinson before I pulled it out of the scrap metal pile at work. Single sided blades but they arn't disposable. Pretty sure the were meant to be stropped.
I keep thinking the little one in the centre would be great for bike trips. But on those trips I'm lucky to shower once in a week let alone actually shave.

Guys still use them on thier face? They are great for scoring bread.

Nothing fancy here…maybe I should give it a whirl again. I would never shave my head with it…but beard…just maybe.

Pretty much the same one I use. I like the disposable blade feature, it’s easier to maintain, no need to sharpen and strop.

I'm still using an original Gillette Sensor. Simple, 2 blades and that's it.

Haven't picked up the razor in two weeks. Last time i did this (40 yrs ago) it was three shades of color. This time it's two. Wife doesn't like it. Grandkids think it's hilarious.

Today I received a new Philips shaver (an AirMiles Reward gift for myself). Turns out this thing has the ability to tell you how to improve your shaving. It monitors the movements of the shaver on your face and on an ongoing basis will show you how well you're doing on the handle with an indicator. It will also Bluetooth to your phone and send ongoing "shaving technique" data to a Philips shaving app on your phone. It also has a cleaning pod with a liquid solution that you place it in for a monthly cleaning. OK that part is OK.
I did have to shake my head when I opened the box and saw a card encouraging me to download the Philips Shaving App. What's next, pooping apps that improve your technique?
I normally use a 2-blade disposable razor. No problems whatsoever.
So am I turning into an old curmudgeon or is this new pinnacle of shaving technology something that anyone would enjoy?

You're getting old and so am I.

Next gen tech isn't held in your hands: it's all in VR/metaverse lol

Trying Harry's now. Last three blade I used clogged up half way through the shave, and there was no way to clear it.
I liked it better when I was 20, and could shave once a month.
At 20 I could grow beard in two weeks. On young guys a beard can create different images of personalities. Old old guys it just determines the species of the old goat.

Did you cut a slot in the back of a medicine cabinet to throw used blades into the wall cavity? I've always wondered what they were thinking when they came up with that plan. Poor sucker in the future starts a renovation and finds a pile of used rusty sharps in the wall.
I worked with a guy that did moving part time. His partner used to sweep his hand behind sofa cushions and find enough loose change to buy a coffee or beer. One day he found a razor blade.....

I’m no shaving savant, but this is what works for me. Guaranteed a nice close shave with mostly zero cuts or irritation.

- Shave immediately after shower, don’t dry off face
- Use a high quality shave cream/soap. I like Proraso soap (Taylor Of Old Bond Street if I want to be fancy) with a badger brush to be old school cool. Started using Nivea Protect cream when travelling which works just as well, just less cool. Gilette super foamy whatever doesn’t work for me at all.
- Shave with a near zero pressure and with the grain. You can do multiple passes, perpendicular then against the grain, to get a super duper close shave. I don’t bother.

The last point is key, multi blade razors have safety handicaps to keep you from slicing your face, DE razors don’t.
I grew up without a dad and had to figure out shaving DE by myself. I shaved first and then showered to wash the blood off. As regder points out, shower first. Shaving right after hopping out of bed isn't good either as your face is a bit puffy and you don't get a good cut.

I started shaving with Blue blades, ouch. Double ouch if dry. A guy I knew would hone his used ones on the inside of a glass if things were tight. I tried it and uh, no thanks.

OK You go for a haircut and the barber is about to finish off with a trim using a straight razor right at your throat. Your arms are somewhat constrained by the sheet thing. Then you notice the barber looks a bit like Trudeau....

My Dad had a special sharpener for blue blades. You'd put them in, and turn the handle a few times to hone the edge. I tried it and went back to regular safety blades after that.
