Money = Success? Moved from Pannon Thread

Financial success does not equal happiness. What good is that $100k+ if you are divorced and your kids hate you? What good is that 100k+ if you don't do anything but work? Sure you can afford a nice house and cars, but what is the real point?

Btw, I know successful people that don't work 60 hour weeks.

Never said financial success = happiness.

But for many people career success = happiness. You put in your dues now and when you are older your experience accumulated from working hardcore hours will payback. And the more money you make at a young age the more it's worth than making it later on.

And predictably you mention you know successful people who don't work very many hours and again like I said there are always exceptions. But most people have to work hard and long to get there ahead of others.

Plenty of people make $45 - $50 an hour which is about $100000 a year.

Christ, a teacher makes $84000 and have the summer off.......that's more like $55-$60 an hour!

It's not that money does not equal happiness, it's that lack of financial stability equates to depression, poor education, lack of food, medical care, vision care, etc...

You may not have a wife, your kids may hate you, but hell you arne't making them starve to death while suffering from suicidal thoughts because you can't make ends meet.

Hate to burst your bubble but beginning teachers who are just starting out now are making $48000/yr...not to mention, they work a lot more that what most people think...as a teacher myself, I am usually at school for 7 am and don't generally leave before 5 or 5:30...and then there are the times when we stay until 8 pm like last night for meet the teacher night, and then don't forget about all those report cards we have to write (which by the way, generally take anywhere from 3-4 weeks to do)...and oh, the behaviours, and kids with ADHD, ADD, Autism and any other of a multitude of special needs that require individual attention...I LOVE my job, but get disappointed when I hear/see comments like these...please join a teacher for a day, and then make that comment...

Money absolutely equals success. And this myth that money doesn't equal happiness also needs to be put to rest. We live in a world where the more money you have means the more freedom you have. The more freedom you have the happier you are.

money = transient happiness.

Success is a very individual determination that for many does not have much to do with financial excess. For many it merely means living comfortably... which in itself, varies greatly from one person to the next. Some of the most happy people I have met have so little money, but have so much else in life.

Success never equals money and money never equals happiness.
There are multi-millionaires that are very established but they have the world on their shoulders and are facing tons of problems everyday.
I find that the happiest people are the ones living a simple, fulfilled life.
They don't care to own a Ferrari, they're happy with their Honda Civic.
They don't care to have a million in the bank as long as they can make ends meet.
Being successful is not based on how much money you make, but how well balanced your life is, family, friends, career etc...

Wait till you have no money to feed those kids, no money to buy them clothes, no money to send them to the best schools, no money to get them the best medical care when they are sick. Your view of the world will change.

I work 7 days a week, 6 out of 7 days are 10-12 hour shifts, Sunday being the shortest day of only 5 hours.
I am young, I am hungry and I want to make it. I want to be a millionaire. I want to own a nice house, I want to own a Lamborghini, I want to establish the life of my family and seeds before they're even born, so they don't have to go through what I have gone or will go through.

I am 25 years old and I am doing extremely well (career wise), but at what cost?
I have lost touch with many friends because my job consumes most of my time.
I have no social life because of it. I go to work, come home, see my girl, ride my bike and call it a day...
I don't mind working my butt off now to be well off in the future and I'm no where near being a millionaire but if my life is going to be like this forever, then f*** it, I don't want it.

In my eyes, money does not equal happiness and it never will.
Yes, you can buy nice things, you don't have to think about a budget and limit yourself but to what extent?...

Saying unlimited cash flow would guarantee you happiness is just being neive.

NOTHING in this world is 100% guaranteed...so thats a moot point.
