I believe a good friend is one that stays through the fires.

With that said, I have a random $100~ bottle of whiskey at my parents with the label removed and a friend's name on it; dude makes a riduclous amount of money but married an emotionally unstable gold digger. Hopefully I won't ever have to pull it out, but if I do...least he'll know there's always a friend watching his back.

For those reading....**** like this happens to the super rich too; they're not immune to thinking with the wrong head. It'll hurt just as badly too =(
 
Oprah is a complete hypocrite as well. People tend to forget she started off with a freak show going head to head with the likes of Jerry Springer. Who can forget Dwarf Bowling, Ron Jeremy and KKK interviews with a panel of 4 Grand Wizards and that fact that she unleashed Dr Phil and his Satanism pandemic that lead to real innocent people like the McMartin family being prosecuted, and gave a platform to kooks like Jenny McCarthy and her anti-vaxing.

She also supported Harvey Weinstein right to the end when she turned on him, even though it was known for years that he was sexually assaulting people. Brad Pitt tried to air it on her show 20 years ago when he sexually assaulted Gwyneth Paltrow, she defended Bill Cosby untilhe was convicted and she refused to put Juanita Broaddrick on air to talk about being raped by Clinton.

She has the power of that Harpo organisation behind her with the best publicists and lawyers.

Having said all that she is quite an incredible rags to riches story. She was shuttled from family member to family member all of her young life and she claims she was systemically raped and abused herself. Thats a lot to overcome

The media always seem to protect their own.

John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) was portrayed as the Anti-Christ by the BBC when he went to expose Jimmy Savile on TV back in the 1980's. This is an organisation that is meant to be the purveyors of morals and good taste in Britain. It was over 20 years before Lydon was allowed back on the BBC
 
My only takeaway is that all involved made some serious coin, not bad for some product that has been on the shelf for far too long.

IDK, nothing like complaining about unwanted media attention by going on Oprah. While he is at a different "level of attention" many famous people are able to keep the paparazzi and tabloids at bay by just staying out of the media... others can't handle not getting the attention but only on their terms (does not work that way) some even have their publicists call the paps so they know where they will be (and then complain...). If they didn't go on Oprah the tabloids wouldn't be all over them right now like they currently are....

Another news flash, lots of people have jerks in their family....

As for the monarchy, it is actually cheaper than electing a president (separate from a PM) and our standard of living (and for most of the commonwealth realms) is pretty damn good. If there is a change, it must be better not just driven by change... Politically conservatism has been more pro while liberalism more anti. Some will say no replacement, what I am hearing there is the desire for Trudeau to have more power?????

How does eliminating the monarchy effect the PM's power? In practice, they are a very expensive rubber stamp with no useful input.

In practice yes, but the GG is under no legal obligation to do what the PM asks.

So for an evaluation of the cost-effectiveness, we need to find a time where the GG has said no. If it doesn't exist, we have divide by zero. The last few moves were rubber stamping a PM dodge to avoid prosecution, harassing staff and now there is a vacant office for quite a while with no apparent downside.
 
well right off the bat you can roll the savings of the salary, pension and spending account back into the taxpayer pockets. Give the PM a 50k bump for the 'increased workload'.

If the GG had stepped in a year ago and told the brat that the Queen wasn't happy with him going on an obscene spending spree, that could have paid for centuries of oversight. Instead they endorsed his actions and protected him from parliamentary oversight. I like the Queen in theory, I have no problem whacking her from the system as I believe there is zero value provided for the expense. If someone can provide information otherwise, I would be happy to reconsider.
 
For someone who was treated as the red headed stepchild (the Heir and the Spare), he has done a lot of good. The Invictus games, several charities. IMO he married down. Way down.
