Mayan apocalypse!

A few points..

1) A larger caliber isn't gonna stop a zombie - those scenes in movies where the guy flies back 20yds because he got hit with .45ACP are just that - movies - irl a hit with any non-artillery caliber wouldn't move the victim 20-thou

2) A .22lr in the brain will kill a zombie just as dead as a .50BMG in the brain

3) .22lr is a lot lighter so I can stash more rounds and carry them around than the other poodle-shooting caliber of choice - .223

4) .22lr is quieter so less likely to attract a horde

5) Still got plenty of 7.62x39 for protection from fellow-humans

6) .22lr has zero recoil, which makes for faster followup shots

You know .45 breaks bones right?

People has survive injury to the brain, i highly doubt a .22 will incapacitate them.
When bones are broken i know they cant use that limb.

A .45 will not push u back a few yrds but it would hurt even if u have a bulletproof vest. There is a larger mass travelling, it has more energy than a smaller mass

We're talking zombies, not people.. The advantages (lighter, less recoil, less weight) would outweigh the disadvantages. For thinking attackers, 7.62x39 rocks

Yet the hitman weapon of choice is .22L to the head from a silenced pistol.... doubt all you want I suppose.

.45 is just a little bit bigger than a 9mm. It is a smaller mass. Even low level II armor stops that weak round.

Guns are nice but in a post-apocalyptic world, ammo can get scarce pretty quick. Plus how much ammo can you carry on yourself once you're on the move?

Enough to get from point A to point B.

Don't have a point B?

Enjoy being a zombie with Rocker Guy.

I got a Buck Mark in .22LR and a Mk II G with a 4-12 40 for "long" distance "sport" but only a few 1000's of rds. I don't buy dirt-cheap stuff, so I get enough so I don't have to worry about running out during range trips.

And reloading bigger calibers will also stretch the supply a bit more if point B gives you the right facilities, which a couple of my point b's of choice do

The thing is you have to point Z in the apocalypse.

So katana/sword, crossbow/bow are you best bets for long term. Cause the ammo will not manufacture itself and we WILL run out after a certain amount of time ;)

I'll just aquire those from dead guys like you who thought the exact same thing :)

Would be pretty easy to carry a few thousand rounds of .22 or .223.

My 12 gauge is pretty versatile. Shoots 2 3/4" shells up to 3 1/2" rounds. bird shot to slugs. Despite the weight of the gun and ammo, I might take that simply because I can shoot so many different types of loads through it.

But, something with a bit of range would be handy to have, and .22 is a lot more common than pretty much any other rifle round.

A guy within arms reach carrying a sword is as dangerous as a guy using a gun. Provided that swordsman is trained. The swing of a sword has a better effective radius in one swing than a shot of a gun.

He said he wont be carrying much ammo, i highly doubt u're gonna get much from him

My GTAM MA/AI/Z all star 4 man SHTF team :)

I'll take the medic and Firestart to Sonny the bulls house and see if he's interested in trading a garage/barn for overwatch and labour.

As long as we don't run into this guy along the way.....

Pick your 4 man team. Must use three other usual suspects from RR.

You still have a few days. :happy2:

Why not stay at your army base? Lots of ammo

Plus that dude, pffff
Just have a set of land mines lying around, no need to keep watch. A couple of buried mortar shells should rip him up nicely

The question is whether there's enough food to feed everyone until they start reaping new production.. Other supplies too. They're army bases, dependent on a logistical network, not fortresses of old. They might have enough supplies for a few weeks and then they gotta depend on the drops (from whom?).

The problem might have been resolved by the police marksman had he known enough about zombie lore to go against his training and for the noggin... Maybe, maybe not with those mutant zombies

Just have a set of land mines lying around, no need to keep watch. A couple of buried mortar shells should rip him up nicely

And...

1) Each detonation would attract a horde of zombies and survivors (either security threats or mouths to feed)
2) Land mines are a deterrent, not a barrier, plus they don't blow up the individual, they blow up a limb so a pain-feeling human can't walk and needs medical treatment
3) I'd be more interested in repurposing the explosives in landmines
4) Do I need to lecture you on the fallacy of depending on irreplaceable technology as opposed to healthy security practices?

Lets agree to disagree. Ur school of thought is quite different than mines.

As for mines, i think it depends on the type of mine set. Lots of soldiers come home dead from mines.

Your use of a gun will attract zombies anyway
