yes your chain will fit -1 plus 2. Is only 1 tooth chain link difference. What gear were you getting to with that gearing. 3rd maybe 4th. With -1, stock rear on my 6. I get to 5th on both straights. If I add 2 on the rear I should get to 6th.

I would be in 4th. By time I hit breaking zone I'm just hitting redline. Any further and I would be in 5th.
So I shoot out of the last corner on the straight. Get a good jump. But mid straight that's when I'm left their !

Not sure why someone would tell you to drop teeth on rear. Only thing that does is give you a little bit better fuel milage. But no acceleration.

You are correct. He was the store owner as well I explained the track to him. Literally every corner. Explains what I wanted in each section. And being newer to the track, I am just starting to grasp everything my own

Just looked at Pete's. And they are saying stock is actually 16/ 46. So I'll look at 15/48. Only issue is they don't have a 48. (JT and vortex)

Check with Dave @ Competition Cycle, he carries a lot of JT and Vortex sprockets.

It's the pitch (thickness) of the sprockets/chain. So if your chain is a 525, you need 525 sprockets. Also, +1 for Dave, great prices and awesome service. Seeing as how you're all the way in Hamilton, double check with him to see if he can ship out the sprockets to you.

If you are going to be running the track you need to switch to 520 conversion....or HIGHLY recommend it. dont waste your time with 525 anymore. Dave at Competition definitely will have what ever you need especially if its a GSXR.

Why is it needed or highly recommended?

Mostly because its easier to get any gearing combo you need and probably a few ounces lighter combining chain and aluminium sprockets

To confirm. Either t will work for what I am wanting to do?
525 is what comes stock. As already stated most track guys run 520 its lighter and more spocket sizes readily available
You already have a chain. Check on the box if it is 525 or520 and get sprockets to match.

There is nothing wrong with using 525 on track.

Ok looked at the box. It's a rk racing chain. GB525SO. I will let him know and I will just take what I can get. Looking forward to trying out the gearing you guys recommended. Much appreciated.

I'm all ears, care to elaborate?

It's a common misnomer.

http://www.gizmology.net/sprockets.htm (refers to bicycle chains/sprockets but the terminology is the same)

525/520/530 refers to the width of the chain. The pitch (as mentioned above) refers to the distance between pins and is the same for 525, 520 and 530 chains/sprockets. You could fit a 525 chain on 520 sprockets but that will lead to increased stress on the chain and premature wear or possibly even failure.
