My dad bought me an electric impact wrench from Canadian Tire for Christmas... the first time I used it was almost 2 years later, finally lol... when I did, I realized my extension cord didn't have the snort required to power it, lol... anyway, after I got a new one of those, it seems alright... keeping me from buying a new compressor, unfortunately... I like others wasted the $50 when it went on sale for the ****** one with the nailer and the tire pressure gauge/gun. I do like that thing, however.. with the gauge and bleeder right on the tool it is pretty nice.
 
I bought this a while ago, lost the receipt and cant warranty it now after the motor blew. Is it possible to buy another 2gal and connect the two tanks in line to make one 4gal compressor?.. Will that put too much stress on the motor? I'll keep the receipt handy this time incase it blows ;)

There's a difference between what you can claim and what you can deliver :cool:
 
One can do much better than many examples here. And spend some more and you will get more utility and longer life.

Oil lubricated is better than oil free, though it does have that associated maintenance.

IMO, any large capacity compressor >10 gallons should be purchased at 220V, otherwise it isn't worth it.

Amazon.ca sells air compressors at some of the best prices I've seen. I went with this after much research.

It's the same price as the MAC2400 at HD, with free shipping. I got it even cheaper a few months ago.

Amazon sold their MAC5200 stock out fast at those prices, over the last few cycles as well. It will probably happen again. But when in stock, it ships within a day or so. I have found their time to stock a little conservative, but better that way than to over-promise.

One can order it and Amazon will reserve the unit and not charge for the purchase until it becomes stocked and is shipped. That order can be cancelled at any interim time as well. It's a buyer friendly system which is nice to see.

this is what i have. got it for 79 bucks at Home depot a few years ago was on sale for 99, but they had it listed wrong. then when they called the manager and confirmed i was right, he knocked off another 20% lol

anyways, 8 gallon. 125 psi pressure.
1.5 running horsepower and delivers 4.0 SCFM at 90 psi.
and its also 120V

hunt around for one of them.. i think some stores still might have somed

IHL sells those for $344 every day and when on sale sometimes gets down to $330, at the moment on sale for $339. They are a great compressor.
 
I have two compressors....a Husky 18 Gal i bought from HD due to a busted wheel, they had it on clearance for $100. 5 dollar wheel and it was as good as new. Its oilless and loud as **** but its been going strong for two years now.

My "stand by" is an old 1980s cambell housfeld (or however you spell that). Picked it up for free when my old work was throwing stuff away. Literally sat there for 15 years collecting dust.

Cast oil lubed pump, 220v or 120V motor. You can see its built to last. Reason i dont use it is that its a horizontal unit and it takes up too much space in the garage. The husky is a stand up unit.
 
The MAC5200 is cast iron and the wheels and foldable handle come in very handy. Plus it can be stored in an upright position which is also very handy to save space. Great specs on the motor rating as well.

Amazon also has some very nice compressor tools and hoses. Their goodyear hoses have a 10 year warranty, are larger size, and are priced the same as lesser hoses at HD for example.

Amazon has free shipping, IHL only has free shipping to select ON cities. If one is in those cities that is a great option for them. Good to know.

m.breen, did you have to buy a separate hose, etc? Didn't show it on the content list, so I didn't get it. I'll will wait for the Campbell Hausfeld one with the attachments. I had a 1G Mastercraft one before. Died after about a year. CTC took it back for a full refund.

Not even close. Paint guns are air hogs...even a larger 20gal compressor will be running the entire time. I know, i tried.

Big thing with paint guns is investing in a good air drying system to keep moisture out of the lines. A quality compressor helps as well as it keeps the compressed air cooler.

Depends on the gun. A good HVLP gun isn't that bad on air. I painted a full set of fairings and it only turned my compressor on once (albeit I think is 30 or 40 gallon). Spraying at 22 psi IIRC.

short answer no, but possibly. Already been said but the gun and what your painting will factor. If your painting a car or the exterior of a cottage no. spraying small furniture and bike parts, sure.Thing to remember with small compressors like this, they are direct drive and run at high RPM to compensate for being single cyl with a small piston. So they run hot, and compressed air generates significant heat so you get a fair amount of moisture in the lines. Moisture in the lines is bad for paint. You can get a decent filter that can be added ( and should be) from princess auto that will collect moisture and some inevitable crap out of the lines.

11 gal, 3hp oil less. $299 with a bunch of tools. Pretty sweet deal
