Maple Syrup Boil Time

We made wind breaks for tomato sauce last year , cardboard covered with tin foil . Moving box and foil taped over side facing fire . Sleeve from a barrel sounds way better .

How about snap together galvanized duct?

I have fond memories of my dad and our neighbours dad boiling sap in the “Sugar Shack” they built on our property. My dad talked about those Spring boils right up until his death.
I’ve driven past that shack a few times, now owned by someone else and they have no interest in it. One of these days I’ll see if I can get the big stainless steel tub (likely an old industrial dual sink thingy) from there and use it to boil my own sap.

Crumpets. All this maple syrup talk got me to make crumpets again. Being rusty, the first batch was so-so but the next went down very well with some dark, store bought maple syrup. There are a few left for breakfast.

I have access to clean steel drums. they
All a game of weather bingo.

I only leave trees tapped for 7-8 days so it all depends on if the weather cooperates in that window.
I got less this year, strangely my gigantic Manitoba maple didn't run this year. Normally I'd get 80 from her, thus year just 4l.

My sugar make is raising off, about 4l today.

Pork fat to the rescue

I had just got the 1st kettle to boil and I asked my wife to go get the fat pieces asap.

The audience was in disbelief as the kettle boiled over 2x before she got back from the house with it.

No boil overs after the fancy device was installed on a piece of electric fence wire.
A conundrum:

A religious group in Quebec wanted to experience a traditional maple syrup outing that had been going on for generations at a particular farm. The experience included watching the boil then having pancakes and syrup along with a serving of pork and beans.

The problem was the pork and the group asked if it could be omitted from the pork and beans, a traditional family recipe. I guess your syrup isn't halal or kosher either.

The conundrum being, wanting to experience someone else's lifestyle without experiencing all of it.

I have found over my years that neither I or my actions have ever been classified as 'kosher' to most people

:)

Weird winter

But finished hanging 98 sap buckets today

Wait to see if the weather will cooperate or not
