Mangle finger while cleaning

Thanks for the reminder. I've been shown to do it like this but never have as putting my fingers near a moving chain freaks me right out. Hope you recover fully.

why does this not surprise me?

I dont really see a problem with that. I spray on lub. I dont touch the chains when i spray...The worst that can happen is my bike falling off the stand and tipping over while in gear. The stand feels very sturdy with the bike on.

Best wishes with the recovery, definitely an ouch-moment, and a good reminder to the rest of us, of what can happen when stupid imitates real life.

I'll admit it, i've done it before also. It always seemed like a good idea at the time. Stupid is, as stupid does.

It all has the makings of one of the most comic/tragic settings of all time, that generally makes up for the experience of youth.

All that which makes up for the infamous, hilarious, and sometimes a train-wreck "Watch this, guys!", moment, intended or not.

Old farts and old hands aren't immune from the same brain farts, either. With familiarity comes a certain contempt for caution. and forgetting of common sense. Some avoid the fickle finger of fate and circumstance.. and others unfortunately can get.. fingered. Pun sorta/not intended..

Edit:

Speaking of which ... Sushii.. ever knocked a bike over in the garage, off a stand, even not running? Sounds like another Kodak moment in the making..

I dont have a garage but i have knocked the bike over on its side off the stand. I think i must be missing something because i find it safe enough to lube the chain with the gear in neutral (rear wheel still spins in neutral) or 1st gear.

how do you knock over a bike on stands...?

I wonder how some people know not to put their penis in a toaster.

Did you try Googling midget+amputee+toaster? Chances are there's at least one toaster sex site.

in neutral is the correct way, first gear can cause issues when the bike falls off the stand (and you've had it fall off before). though the wheel is not moving at a high rate of speed it can still catch something like a loose article of clothing.... just the wrong thing happening at the wrong time and you can be in a world of hurt.

So what's the point in calling the OP an idiot? He made a mistake, he suffered the consequence, he learned his lesson and he's nice enough to remind anyone else with the temporary absence of mind not to do something like this.

We've all done stuff with the "I'm invincible" or "not gonna happen to me" mentality. The OP is just reminding us that this mentality doesn't always end well.

A reminder to all of you and a hard lesson for me. OUCH it is more than that agonizing
Rushing any doing any Job is risky and taking short cuts can lead to accidents. Safety must always be number 1 and dispite distractions we need to keep our mind on task.

It could of been much worses.
Hope you get well soon!

Read the post Joe! I didn't call him an idiot. I said it was "idiotic" and the op seems to agree. Please don't tell me I have to start teaching grammar too now...to an engineer.

wtfuuu

3 pages and no1 asks for pics?

Granted, but there's a fine line between calling someone an idiot, and calling their actions idiotic. More importantly, (can't stress this enough) it wasn't your post that made me write my previous response, it was the post of others. I just happen to use the same root word as you. I apologize if anyone interpreted my post as singling you out, that wasn't my intention.

If you're going to teach grammar, I could point you to a lot of individuals that think "u" and "r" are acceptable words on a cover letter for a professional full-time position. It's sad that English is my second language (technically speaking), yet I've grasped grammar better than many kids out there.
