You sure you aren’t going too small too fast. I guess a test ride will give you an idea. That Royal Enfield looks nice too.
No event has turned yet....just potential. When I got hit and broke my leg in Canada I was riding a 155 CC Yamaha nMax and it was fine on the QEW.
Given the low speed limits, high fines and my penchant for leisurely riding the Honda 125, which is a full sized bike, it would be adequate and we could use the extra money but nothing happens until the BMW sells.
I'll get the front brake sorted on Thursday and will ride it some more. I'm not alone with that sidestand being too long, a number of riders have shortened theirs 25mm. My buddy moved the bike to different location on the rather uneven pavement at the inn owners request...I'm always careful to get the camber angle correct on all the full sized bikes I've owned....30" inseam
- might be less now.
The stock exhaust is enroute in a few days and that will eliminate one minor aural and visual annoyance.
Figured out how to configure the dash and rather like the info available....especially range which was showing 364 km after fill up. That was a surprise on the 11.5 L tank. Will see if true.
Like the right angle air valves - lots of little useful farkles in this list

His asking price is only $20 higher than my asking - maybe he would swap but have to try the RE.

Kinda cool ....keyless ignition on this level machine and the tester really liked it. Think I'd prefer the Honda tho especially at the price. But all moot if no sale on the G-310-Gs.
Still 15 HP is a step up over the Honda especially if the bike is lighter....it's not by quite a bit. 137 kg vs the svelte 115 kg for the little Honda. The CB300f I sold is only 150kg so the Suzuki is chunky for the engine size.
Still hoping the RE pans out - even today for a look/sit on.

In a nut shell: too big, too heavy, the side stand is too long, and he gave himself a scare.

Too tall, weight is not a factor, side stand IS too long as others riding them discovered, and prefer not to have to deal with being overly cautious on cambers....had quite enough of that with Vstroms.....had a couple near misses on those as well with my short inseam.
Dropping an ST1100 when the clutch failed me on a hill turn around didn't scare me and neither did having to catch this. I just don't want to be in the situation where I have to. I'm glad the leg held as I'm still not much beyond the break anniversary and the xrays showed no healing on the pinned leg but docs said nto a worry and appears they were correct. Don't want a habit of putting that much stress on it.
The Himalayan weighs more, has the kickstand well positioned and I like the guy selling can also service.....so it's a maybe opportunity to move to a 2022 model with zilch km....or it doesn't happen and I adapt/

Also concerned that it could lead to BMW service expenses I won't like.
If I can net $1000 on this bike tho....then I can decide which direction to go...don't think it will be as easy as the other bikes I sold were girl bikes. The RE guy confirmed that was the only category that is active.

Poking around the bike today I realized there was a rather thick "foot" on the bottom of the kickstand.
Will pull that for now and I took the SItnFly seat off and put my AirHawk on. I've had the foot expander on other bikes and like it but for now will pull it.

If I get 1.5" down that will do fine. Will start there ....maybe the front shocks but trying to stay within my $600 budget for tweaks.

Got a better cup holder this time. Had the RAM mount ones for years but did not hold a lot of fluid and while the self leveling was okay it was prone to wind. This looks better. All metal and good reviews. Up to 32 oz

This interesting beast popped up. Bit of a buzzkill on my fuel mileage but way more power, like seat and the look. Truly retro. $5500 with 4500 km on it. Seat height is fine at 31.7

Best ride yet with front brake sorted ( mostly ) and bike as lowered as possible before the lowering link arrives.
Went with a BMW rider after my regular guy bailed with a constant nosebleed all night. Had coffee and chatted.
Paul guy gave me name of his independent BMW mechanic. A very good tip.
I am still not satisfied with the the front brake entirely.
Just before stopping the braking is uneven. My ST1100 had this is spades - apparently "hot spots".
Will ask the BMW mech but not adverse to new rotor and pads and break them in properly.
Going to bring the handlebars back a hair - 5 minute job. The risers are already in place.
Will be glad when the new stock muffler arrives...current sound still somewhat annoying.

Enjoyable ride down the Gillies...the better seating position for sure no pressure on wrists and getting better at choosing engine braking and rear brake in combination with front brake.
When I am satisfied I want to do some emergency braking. For now I'm keeping my distance.
I'm a bit astonished at the range and skeptical.
Went home to Smithfield, to Kuranda to Yungabarra and home down the Gillies - 164 KM and still showing 228 range left.
Now that is nudging 400 km on an 11.5 L tank.
I never got that on the CB300 - highest real life was 275 but I did have a liter left on on a 13L tank.
Unlike most other bikes I'v owned, the fuel indicator drops in even increments.
So I'm from Missourah on that range of 228 remaining but will try and see tomorrow...if the guy doesn't buy the BMW

Fuelly indicates almost identical 68 mpg on either bike.,,,and I was riding very conservatively today

This could be made to work. Certainly the correct seat height...under 31" tho wide, bit of decent horsepower and torque for the familiar 473 cc mill reworked a bit for 2019.

Fills part of my requirements except off pavement which I'm dubious on anyway.
Sport seating is a worry but with that low seat might be okay.

There is a 2013 500 around - Shad topcase resolves my storage issue. 31" seat height - very familiar bike. More room than the CB300F and some small advantage in that it has 17" front and back for my use. $600 worth of topcase and fitting.
2013 is first year so that's a negative but I know the bike and effectively that's what I rode across Canada. My 2018 had the same tire sizes. 40k km ...not as attractive. Local commuter so makes sense.
I think asking at $5500 is high...$4k I'd do it. We'll see ...have to sell the BMW first.
One 2014 CB500x for sale has 114,000 km on it. Good motor....somewhat boring but more fun than the CB300

I'm surprised you're not giving the CB500X a harder look, or even it's new 'scrambler' version whatever it is they call it.
You enjoyed the bike, it served you well (hell it served me well), so to me it would be a nice progression to get back onto it for your use case.

The issue with the CB500x is price. This is in range for price IF mine sells
28k km - BUT 700 km away. Stupid good range on it. 500 km on 17+L tank.
nice ride to Daintree Village early but aready 29.8 feels like 32 at 9 am.

Speaking of range - the BMW range is a bit less than the Honda CB300 in real life. Got 325 km and only 1/2L left in the tank on fillup. The gauge is very accurate.
