MacDoc's new ride 2018 MT03 ends with 2017 GS310 loaded mebbe?

Guy pulled up beside me at Daintree Village...pretty weather beaten but not as old as me so we got chatting bikes.
He's got a Himalayan as well and finds it too gutless. I envied the seat on that Triumph.
ATGATT not his thing.

Reallllllly missing my cupholder. My order is very slow coming but looking forward to the larger 32oz capacity.

Heat got to me today - still not rehydrated a few hours later. On the CB300 with the topcase always had 750 ml in the cupholder and 1.2L in the topcase.
220 km out and back.

Decided not likely to pursue a Himalayan but will do a bit more reading. My riding buddy is all for the CB500X. He had one with a Rally Raid kit but opted the next year for more power.

Well it won't be this one

I actually rode a Black Shadow up the street very early on in my riding career ...some guy in St Catharines I met had one in his garage and let me ride a very short distance. Something akin to a steam train under your seat. $200,000k ..,,wow.

Guy did not show to see the BMW ( he will be back in the area in mid-Dec ) so will continue to tweak the GS to my satisfaction and get as many rides I can until my operation on Dec 4th....will be out of circulation for riding for two weeks after that.

Was looking through the bikes I've owned and came across the NT700v ...Honda D'Eauville. Made good coin on flipping that bike - never really got the kind of use I did from the Vstrom in the backround

31.8 " Seat height....I'd have that now.
.......
Wow 122,000 km and being sold by the original dealer.

I never liked the short shift motor at the time. Hard redline at 6500 tpm
But in my dotage I might actually enjoy it. 500 lb bike but very low. I might chase one if the BMW sells. 64 HP - huge 19.5L tank and 50 mpg not too shabby....no storage issues tho the side bags are weird. Non-removable and a connecting channel:unsure:

Looks like a mini Honda ST1300. Non removable luggage? Wow that would be a pain to get used to. You’ve owned a lot of different bikes.

Yeah - 500 lb down low. ( tank is under the seat....there is storage in the fake tank) Lowish seat - 1/2" higher than the CB300F.
Loads of storage for my use since no touring and remarkable fuel economy for a 700. Big tank size and decent windscreen. If I recall it was a quiet bike too.
At the time I owned it I was too used to being able to wind out a bike to high RPM with no rev limiter cutting in. 7-9000 was where the fun was. It was an abrupt limiter too....like you ran into a mattress. I must admit the brief stint with the high revving Yamaha MT-03 was a treat.
Interesting the BMW single also does well on short shifts...seems to invite it.
It is actually a situation where a dealer might take a trade from the 2017 BMW to a 2008-10 Honda as the dual sport aspect of the BMW is in higher demand too.
I have every confidence in the longevity of that 700 motor - low stress. Bit of a techno wonder bike at the time tho neither my kid nor I liked it when we test rode them at Rock the Red.
Video shows some features,
Mine was a US import.
oh yeah shaft drive

Oh I'd really like this bike

 Sold · 2010 Honda vfr
AU$5,500
Seat height is still okay at 31.8" but riding position ??!! sigh

I notice he has a SitnFly cover on the seat. My GS has one as well and has made my getting on and off easier as my boot does not catch ....slides easily.
I put it over the AirHawk and it is very comfie.
I was also a bit more aggressive on the GS today accelerating on the highway and roundabouts....can feel the extra 30% HP over the Honda
Torque is very similar.

Still working on the braking ...narrowing it down.

Yay - lowering links arrived so now just getting appointment for those and the muffler. Also need the handlebars moved a tad.
I'll wait on the brakes unless he can get the pads Monday.

Nother candidate well priced

2022 Verys300x - 8k km $5500.
A twin, a bit more power 39, a tad lower seat than the GS but higher than the Honda.
and much newer --- 22 vs 17. Looks less off pavement oriented...I'll bet the suspension is much shorter 5.1" in the front vs 7 on the gs. Slightly less on the rear...5.8 vs 7"

That's a surprising price. Trying to find location ...know it is in Queensland so makes transfer easy. 🍿

At that mpg just put less in the tank to keep the weight down.

I think @ToSlow had one of these

Some small progress...had to bail on the Daintree ride....partner with 50/50 tires not wanting to ride in showers as super slippery on roundabouts...same applies to me...we go on Monday.
I was restless anyways and took a spin down to Babinda ...120 km return.
Good time to try something I'd been considering,
I really like the Rev'it riding pants I got a while back tho I'm running out of the ability to tighten them at the waist.
However they were always tight across the crotch ....Rev'it replaced them under warranty when they split.
So on a whim I tried my older, more generous AirGlide 3s with suspenders...much easier to get on and off...clearly the Rev'its were restricting my movement a bit.
AirGlides are mesh as well and with the looser fit better in the heat as the air circulates. I had Joe Rocket shortie mesh jacket and the Airglides and it was a very comfortable ride.
Almost reconsidering the lowering but I can take it down 1.5" with the links then bring back up with suspension.
Will have to shorten the kickstand or buy and adjustable one. Undecided....might just do brakes and muffler next Wed.

Pigged out on trifle and an oversized steak and kidney pie at Babinda Bakery .. 120 km out and back ...just nice on a hot day. Not my pic ...it was easily twice the crowd.
..it was very busy.Screen Shot 2024-11-16 at Nov, 16 2024 2.56.20 PM.jpg
https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Rest...eviews-Babinda_Bakery-Babinda_Queensland.html so many goodies.
Snagged a good seat tho and had leisurely lunch while listening to the audio book. It is a very going concern. I had intended to bring half the trifle home but hey....
Feeling more and more comfortable on the GS except for the front brake.......grrr.
Not alone on brake complaints about the baby GS.
ouch

After another set of pads, front caliper rebuild, new master cylinder, new lever, and new rotor the brake finally work like they should.

Y'know this thing has much lower seat height than my baby GS 29"!! Nother bike that could be considered if mine sells since I have an open licence. Comes with panniers. The MUCH lower height offsets any weight issues and I do like thumpers.
Too bad they killed the 650 single...if they could get the seat that low on the 650 - why not on the 310 ??
The very expensive "low" seat on the 310 is only 15mm lower. WFT BMW?

Do you not pay taxes in Australia each time you buy a new bike?
