LOUD pipes bylaw (Oakville)

How does the test work? City traffic alone can read up to 85dB and if they are completing roadside testing I would think this "white noise" can contribute a large amount of the reading on its own. (Normal conversation is at 65dB. A lawnmower is 107 dB). I'm relying on the site below for these average readings.

The meter was at zero with the Existing noise before starting the bike perhaps?

SAE J2825 (on which this bylaw is based) prescribes all sorts of requirements for the test environment, including background noise level, wind speed, distance to adjacent objects, etc.

If you get one of these tickets, and it goes to court, you need to ask the cop all those questions.
