Looking to replace my Genesis with something new...

Hey guys,

I recently posted my Genesis Coupe 3.8 for sale as it's time to unfortunately grow up and get something a bit more practical...Genesis and Bike...neither are overly practical lol but I decided that the bike stays...so something's got to go...

Anyway just looking for suggestions for a small car that's cheap on gas, plenty of space, and reliable to use as my daily/winter drive as the bike's my commute/go-to for most things unless I need to carry gf and cargo...

So far...

Hyundai Elantra GT - nice car...wasn't overly inspiring but nice car overall
Ford Focus - Very nice 2012 models but a lil pricey so looking at a hatch as a demo where i can save a few $k
Chev Cruz - drove the car last night...sweet Jeebus this car has absolutely no nuts whatsoever...the Turbo's a little bit better but it's the slowest of the bunch
Kia Forte 5 - like it...but not very fun

Any suggestions/thoughts are highly appreciated and if you have any other cars you'd recommend I look at I'd appreciate that as well:

Also considering:
- Matrix
- Vibe
- older Focus

Mazda 3. 25+ years of collective ownership in my family and not a single warranty issue. Very reliable, lots of zip if you get the 2.5. In the middle of the pack when it comes to gas mileage.

As will ALLLLLL other threads.

Suggesting the Subaru Impreza
Newer model great on gas,
Amazing cargo space
Winter = a lot safer
amazing safety ratings.
Confidence while driving
And the suby community is tight (subies come with friends lol)

Newer model is not as fun as the older model though. Theyre going more mainstream with the Imprezas

Basically best decently priced for AWD in its category :)
I suggest getting a test drive

Otherwise have you considered German? (golf?!)

I've heard the Cruze has a recall recently. Fire from the wiring. Go figure.

I recently got the Elantra. Great bang for the buck, but don't expect too much in the handling

Matrix is a reliable, decent car, but boring. Drive's like a Toyota, and I don't mean that in a positive way.

My pick would be a Civic. Not a fan of the styling, but they do drive well, are reliable, and the interior is somewhat nice.

The Focus is very nice but I don't know about the reliability.

man I just took a look at your odo in the ad. Where did you go ?!?! Lol.

I have not heard any bad things about the matrix/vibe.

Why not keep it in the family and try the veloster-t?

vrus...it's a car...meant to be driven! LoL I love to drive and would go for a blast just for fun...now I do that with the bike:)

Not really a big fan of the Veloster. I'd like to get a sedan/hatch/wagon as the space is needed.

I looked at the VW but find them more % than I'm willing to pay, same goes for the Subaru which I also really like.
I've considered the Calibre but...not convinced about Dodge reliability just yet...the Dart looks awesome in pictures...not so much in real life! LoL

Thanks for your suggestions everyone I highly appreciate it. I'm going to check out a 2012 Focus wagon tonight so I'll see how that goes. Last time it was easy...like Genesis...drive Genesis...buy Genesis lol.

Drive an XRS with a 5-speed transmission and you'll notice a difference.

How similar are the Matrix and Vibe? I hear they're pretty close mechanically but just on the look of the car is where they differ.

My wife has an elantra - sport touring wagon/hatch. Good car - nice manual transmission, no issues.

depending on the years, but for most part they are mechanically the same. The Vibe was offered with a bigger engine and AWD but apparently it sucks...

Hmmmm subaru impreza base price is 19k + pdi n bs and with a bunch of options
Elantra GT same price without AWD
Forte5 EX (not LX) is same price as well
Cruze is one of the cheapest but you said you didnt really like

caliber is the devil stay away ahah

How about a Kia Rio5?

Something like this one? >Click Here<

I presume that's your car? No that's fine, I'm not a big fan of the Rio.

So here's another question for you guys...what're your thoughts on previous daily rentals? Obviously their pricing is considerably less than brand new...but mentally it's a tough decision as daily rentals have the stigma of being beat to hell (not like in the Jackass movie but close!)

The obvious concern is the abuse.

Another not well known item, many of them are specially built fleet vehicles that are built to option specs that cannot be ordered by the general public. Things like the cheapest suspension option (no rear sway bar, crappy spring rates, etc.) combined with interior options like the cheapest seat material etc. Then they have a bunch of convenience features that the higher end cars have. Sort of crap in some areas and high spec in the superficial areas if that makes sense.

Not all are like this but many are.

Yes, that was my shameless plug. :D

Won't speak for the XRS as it's been a while since I drove one. Do watch out for oil burning on the 2.4L's though

Yup, pretty much the same car. I think the vibe looks better. The Caliber is actually a useful little car. The 2.4L engine is known to be bullet proof. But the car is gutless. Don't expect to win any stop light battles with that bad boy! However, you can get a last years model for super cheap or a 1 year old ex rental for even less. Practical little car.

I've read great reviews on the focus, but the price tag hurts.

New Elantra is nice. Know a couple of folks that have them and are very pleased with them. Really depends on what you need out of the car. Spend less now and more when you decide to upgrade to a new bike, that's what I suggest.

Unless you're rich, then forget everything I've said and buy what you want!

Cheers.
