Looking to Race with SOAR

I'm in pretty much the same boat as MurphSVR. I was in the middle of building a 250Ninja for Moto Series when they pulled the plug on the 2016 season. Fortunately I really like endurance racing so the little Ninjette will be the new bike for the DAYAM Racing Team with SOAR in the GTL class.

Hmmm. Looks like My XR650R motor in an FZR400 frame may be legal for Lightweight Superbike. Could be fun!

Relax, FZR400 guys, It's a stone stock motor. It has a giant 45mm carb and a custom exhaust, but the inside of the motor hasn't been touched:

A la contraire... that's as cool as all get out. Would love to chase it around. What's the weight come to?

Nice bike. What kind of power is that making? Around 55ish?

Nah, mine is 340ish, my engine weighs a lot more. That is an interesting project. Bring it out!

*thread hijack*

didn't want to start a new thread about SOAR, but this will be my first season racing

I currently own a 2005 zx6r that will be my bike for the upcoming season

What races should i register for other than rookie cup?

If i'm going to spend the weekend, i would like to max out my seat time.

That bike is also legal for am600/superbike/open/bridgestone cup

1 year away from lost era too, wow

rookie cup/am600 is a popular combo

I think that a 650 single also qualifies for LWT superbike.

At least in RACE it does...unlimited Singles. (I am waiting for someone to bring a CR500 supermoto out!)

It also qualifies for P4-F3 as well.

thanks!

am600 and rookie cup wold give me enough seat time for the weekend?

I just bought a new set of dunlop 211's, so the bridgestone cup is out for now.

Just keep in mind..it still only has 45-50hp that will be up against modern 600s in Am600/Rookie Cup (so 115-125hp).

I am not saying that you can't still win...but you're going to have to run waaay above what the bike can do at that point.

You're allowed to race rookie and amature? That's like racing amature and pro. Kinda dumb.

Buy the tires you plan to use for the season, get the bike setup for those tires. Flip flopping brands/models is only going to make you chase setup or think one tire is far superior then the other because of wear/grip issues. These things do make a difference even as a beginner.

IMO, two races should be plenty of seat time for you and give you adequate time to rest and think between races. You'll be on information overload during your first race weekend and having time to relax and chill is a key to having a good weekend. And that's not taking into account the "I-didn't-know-I-needed-to-do-that/ How-in-the-heck-am-I-going-to-get-that-done-before-the-next-race?" events that often occur on your first weekend.

If you have never raced you might want to consider only doing Rookie your first weekend and then take it from there. I am not sure you are allowed in AM600 anyways. For sure not the first weekend

The idea of Rookie is so you can ease into it, also for the organizers to realize if you are a competent rider. One thing is to get your license, another to go through turn one with 20 other bikes fighting for the same real state and make it.

Enough stress your first weekend to add a second class. If you want more seat time, do the friday practice which you should anyways.

Just my opinion having gone through it a couple years ago.

thanks!

UMM No.
Rookie is simply a platform where EVERYONE is a beginner allowing for an equal playing field, thats all. In order to race in Rookie you must already have an Amateur race license so that allows you to race in any AM class (with any org as a matter of fact not just SOAR). We dont grade licenses nor evaluate riders skills for graduating within a classification (unless of course it is extreme in either direction) I believe your confusing Rookie with RACEs old Novice class.
Its of no mind I already spoke to the OP regarding his options with SOAR.

So you could be a front runner in AM and race rookie too?

RACE still maintained Novice 600 in 2015 for the sole purpose of evaluating racers before allowing/pushing racers to AM600 or for restricting them to Novice 600.

I guess I misinterpreted this below in red (my bad) I swear I read somewhere that the license for the first weekend is not a full license and can be revoked if the rider does not show proficiency (I am paraphrasing).

Section 7: ROOKIE CUP RIDER REQUIREMENTS
SOAR provides a rookie race class for riders to gain experience and improve their skills prior to upgrading from Amateur (Novice) to Professional (Expert) license status.

  1. [*=left]Rookie Cup is restricted by engine capacity.
[*=left]Rookie Cup riders are riders with less than six race weekend’s experience. These are ANY weekend not discounting other organizations.
[*=left]Rookie Cup riders although racing, are encouraged to take this time as a learning tool to become accustomed to race procedures and racing itself.
[*=left]All Rookie Cup riders must have completed either a SOAR Race School or approved other school. Holding a Novice or Amateur license from a recognized organization is sufficient proof to apply for a SOAR Amateurlicense.

Edit: Here found it

Section 8: FOR AMATEUR (Am) (formerly known as Novice) RACER LICENSE APPLICANTS

  1. [*=left]Must have completed a SOAR Race School or equivalent, or, have been licensed with another recognized organization. Clarification on equivalent school is at the discretion of SOAR officials.
[*=left]Upon completing the above listed requirements and application, the rider will be granted “Provisional Amateur” status for one race event. During this first race event, the rider will be required to complete the weekend with no major infractions and no more than one at fault crash. SOAR officials will determine the fault. If the rider completes the weekend, fulfilling the above requirements, they will then be granted a full Amateur race license.

I knew I wasn't going crazy.
I guess they are evaluated when they race amateur but not Rookie?

Regardless even the rule book encourages racers to ride rookie and get used to racing first before going into other categories which seems like a reasonable thing to do and rightfully you wrote it into your book.
