Let’s make things more expensive for customers…

Liability for impromptu events is insane.
That is a key change. Before people realized that things happen, now there is a ton of money lit on fire in insurance and lawsuits that drives up the price of everything.

I still have many more months of work before I am recovered from breaking my leg at a business in early March. Could I sue them? Probably yes. Could I win? Maybe also yes. Am I going to do it? Most likely no as I think that would make me an ahole. I did an activity with some risk and got hurt. My problem.

Acceptance of responsibility is getting rare. Kudos to you.

A couple of years ago one kid stabbed another and the perpetrators mother declared "Someone should have stopped him (Her son)."

Today, if you err and cause damage you don't apologize. It can be taken as an admission of guilt. It is unfortunate that your body came into contact with a bullet that originated in the chamber of device that somehow appeared in my hand.

Not in Canada, and you can't get sued for trying to help (unless you do something REALLY stupid).
I think he was thinking of the actual business/person that caused the damage offering a sincere apology and wasn't thinking of a bystander stepping in to offer assistance.

Out on a ride once and a rider had a mishap resulting in a minor concussion. An off duty paramedic stopped and offered assistance.

I mentioned the event to a 911 operator I knew and she hinted at the paramedic taking a risk because their knowledge made them subject to more scrutiny if things went wrong. Sucks doesn't it.

I am most definitely NOT a socialist, but I'm also not heartless and accept starvation in the streets. We should move toward a workfare system though. No one that I have ever met is completely useless (some where pretty close admittedly). Have these people pickup garbage, plant flowers in parks/medians, wash the dishes at a soup kitchen, etc. Or require them to get an education for payment. Don't let them starve, but stop just giving them money.

I have my rights......

I know a bunch of USA redneck anti socialists and contrary to their attitude, if they know you as a decent person, they will do more for you than a NDP supporter. They don't like it when their money goes to a person that knows how to work the system and the government has a system that can be played.

The three strike rule, whether it pertains to crime or social benefits.

What do you do with a person that strikes out?

Prison for life in the case of crime? It's cheaper to give them money to live on the street.

Social benefit abusers? Workfare didn't work. Do you want peaches picked by someone who doesn't care how hard he pitches them into the basket. Dishes washed by someone used to cockroaches everywhere?

As the song goes "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

How many people have given up on the American dream? Some are working like functioning alcoholics, they save face but have no hope in their hearts. Others just survive on the streets, burnt out.

Short of emulating Stalin, what are the options for dealing with the bottom 2%?

2% would be easy, the number is more than double that in Ontario.

Going with my easy number the 2% should be dealt with by??????

Institutionalize them in violation of their rights?

Institutionalize them and throw budgets off target?

Force their relatives to care for them?

Have them quietly disappear in the night?

My bigger question is why we seem to have so many.

Got a new billing rate from the doctor for uninsured services. Even the doctors are selling subscription services now…

Effing hell. Wife and I have been calling halls around to host a baptism for our youngest....5k is the minimum we can find (for approx 50 people).

Might put it off and just do catering in the house/yard when it warms up.

She's doing the list now to see where we can cut, but just our immediate family is 20. Then friends where we went to their kids' graduations, communions, and baptisms and BOOM...50.

Try the local Legion. Their rates will be much more reasonable.

Don't tell them what it is for. I know when I was looking for a wedding stuff, as soon as you said wedding prices jumped a good 4X for the same thing. Also, to be fair, if there is catering, at $50 per person (fairly lowish end) that is $2500 right there.

I have done 80 plus at our house with BBQ (guy comes up with a trailer with the BBQ, etc.) for around $25 a person.

Bend over folks....

Carbon tax goes up 14c/L on fuel in a few weeks, and natural gas up 12c/m3 on April 1.
For a family of four the tax rebate for this should be around $976 for 2023. So get going with that insulation and keep the Volt, rebate stays the same what you pay will be less.

Like it or not it is the idea. Rebate is based on the number of people in the house (and adult vs kid) and is fixed for each family but what you pay is controllable by reducing consumption and/or by increasing efficiency. Some will choose to win tax wise, some will choose to lose.

So we all stay home is not the answer, Vote this government out before it keeps this charade going. Can't wait to see this new budget coming out
