Leather suit on the street?

I see slot of people who are wearing at least jacket, jeans and some sort of boot. But I also see a ton of people with this kit and no gloves..... I don't get it. My basic kit for city is jacket, jeans, boots and gloves. On the highway I add textile overpants with protection. If it's a long trip, leather pants zipped with the 360.

Dont care what people think... all leather is your safest option and regardless how you look, its about safety and your comfort level as a rider. I'll think your crazy (on those hot days) but defend you all the way...

I'd say go for it. Guys look hot in full riding gear, whether one piece or two, and it could save you lots of physical damage! :)

You probably changed his life and entire outlook on riding.
lol, unless monkeying up north, I rock my fully protected shorts.

After I got hit from behind at the beginning of the season, I realized gear does nothing to protect you from a minivan. Road rash isnt that bad at city riding speeds, so I do go Squid to my local timmies for my daily coffee intake, and ride on business casual with a sweater to go to work

One thing I chose to do which is stupid is riding without riding shoes in the city but they are my consequences to deal with

Drive north of steeles and the leathers start showing up.

Any hardcore ride I've seen up north (basically anywhere outside of toronto) wears either full leathers or full textiles.

More hardcore the rider, more chance they wear full protection when they ride.

At least this is my limited experience.

I wear my two piece along with full gauntlet gloves, Sidi boots, and helmet any time I am either going for a spirited country ride or riding pretty much anywhere other than Guelph. That's because for long country rides or on the 401 (which I need to take to get pretty much anywhere) the speeds are quite high. If I'm just riding into Guelph for a quick errand, I might wear my reinforced (with leather) jeans and leather jacket. But even with the leather reinforcement, I don't trust the jeans.

The false sense of security of the ATGATT's.

Last group ride i did up north i wore jeans. Why so i won't ride like a complete yahoo and over ride my limits. If i wore my one piece i'd be dragging knees and other parts of my body all over the Muskoka roads.

I can deal with road rash, but leather won't help me when i hit something solid.

I've rashed up my hands so I firmly believe in always wearing quality gloves. I've also had my share of f'ed up ankles, so I firmly believe in wearing the best most expensive boots I can buy. Beyond that, I wear a leather jacket because I find them comfortable and versatile. Not so much for leather pants.

And yeah, the only way a jacket and pants are gonna save your life is if you're about to get rashed up so bad that you bleed out. Otherwise I'm okay with dealing with rash on my legs (been there).

The best protection is to just not friggin crash. I do it 99.7% of the time I ride... and I like those odds

Stomach drags before my pp touches the ground.

LOL.

Anyways, leather suit is too hot and probably overkill for the city. You're more likely to get hit by a car in the city than get road rash and a suit won't help much with that (as far as I know). I get hot enough with synthetic pants and a jacket in the city and typically just wear the jacket.

I'd stick with boots, jacket, and gloves for the city. I'd save the leather suit for the highways and backroads.

Anyway I always wear my leathers and prefer the 2 pc to the 1 pc , for the simple fact you can unzip the jacket when stopped and remove to keep cool. Go for it !!!!!!

I wear my 2pc suit on the street 90% of the time. It's almost the same as wearing a jacket and pants. I wouldn't recommend 1pc for street. Too much hassle and you will die in the heat. 2pc and 1pc offer the same level of protection, the 2pc is just more convenient.

A one piece isn't a bubble that will protect you from everything. However... to say you won't get much rash riding in the city is not the dumbest thing I've ever heard but it's close. A friend of mine slid on his back on a city street and the stories about nurses with zero sympathy scrubbing the rocks and crap out of his back, not to mention the skin grafts have made me a firm believer in doing whatever I can to minimize risk.

I don't care what anyone else does (haters gonna hate) but some people might actually think that you know what you're talking about and decide to follow your example.

I don't have a false sense of security. I don't really ride much differently between when I have gear and when I don't. I've been down at low speed without gear and with and I know with gear the damage is far less. So that difference just amplifies my desire not to go at 401 speeds without any leather.

In some cases though, no gear is better. :snorting:

I don't know anyone or even seen anyone that does this in Toronto,

There were a few people at the Burrito Boyz meet that were in full leathers.

Some people think it's silly but it's your safety at risk when you ride your bike, you do what you want.
I don't have experience with a one piece but perhaps a 2-piece would be a bit more convenient.
Someone mentioned more flexibility and some people don't realize that most 2 piece suits zip together at the back so that you don't have a gap/skin showing.
This gives you the option to just wear the jacket in the event that you're going to a buddy's house 5 minutes away and you know the fastest you'll be going is 60.

Here's a newsflash if you go down on the 401, wearing or not wearing leathers isn't going to help you. You need a thing called luck, which isn't sold by any stores in the GTA yet.

Plus when wearing full leather you will experience less wind drag, in which it will make you wanna go faster :p
