Leather suit on the street?

Hey all.

So call me crazy but I'm considering (eventually buying) a track suit for every day riding. I don't know anyone or even seen anyone that does this in Toronto, but that doesn't say much because I mostly see people in shorts and tee shirt and I don't know that many riders. Right now I have kevlar jeans and a textile jacket and while I think it is decent protection, it is far from the best. And the thing is, whenever I ride my bike for more than just pleasure I end up bringing clothes to change into anyway. On a few occasions I keep the jeans on but I've learned it's always good to have a pair of shorts on me. So right now I'm thinking of upgrading my jacket to leather but I'm also planning if I should need to upgrade pants what would be a good match. Other than the fact that (I believe) the one piece wouldn't have any pockets, it would be more protective than a two piece.

What do you think?

Just get leather pants to match your jacket... And I agree with you... Do what's safest. I think I will be upgrading to leather pants as well soon. Jeans offer 0 protection :(

I usually wear my one piece and if people think it's over the top, I don't really care.

+1 who really cares what others think. I feel naked if I do decide to go for a cruise in shorts and a tee. Although the heat combined with leather sometimes blows...but thats why you gotta keep a move on and the air will help cool you. I feel more confident with all my gear on for sure, and I am not going to lie, I do sometimes go out with jeans and a tee around town, never on the highway though.

whether you choose a 1 piece or 2 piece, it will be a decent upgrade from what you have now

I try to wear my two piece as much as I can, but if I'm riding to work it's just not happening.
A lot of times I substitute leather pants for jeans but I try not to.
+1 on feeling more confident while riding in full leathers, also gives a crazy grip on the tank.

Appreciate the feedback so far. It's not that I care what other people think, I'm concerned about dropping that kind of dough and realizing it's so inconvenient that I don't want to wear it.
Obviously a two piece is more convenient, if I want to just wear the jacket and jeans I can. But the one piece I'm looking at is a lot nicer than their two piece.

If you are buying I would suggest 2 piece, I have found the one peice to be way more restrictive, and the nice thing about the 2 peice is folding it down at events etc....there are actually a lot of people that wear full track suits for the street, many show up every Thursday at L&L sporting full gear.

getting to work: leather jacket (helps that my work place is 2 blocks away)
out to ride: 2 piece comes on.

Wore my 2 piece while out riding and it saved my *** big time.

Used to have a 125.....LOL.

cliffs:
- who cares what ppl think
- haters gon hate.

I've crashed in a 1 piece and I've crashed in jeans... same general outcome. Obviously every wreck is gonna be different and the 1pc provides superior protection, but to me the lack of comfort is a tough pill to swallow for every day street riding.

It's hot, your movement is restricted, it looks stupid, it's hard to get in and out of, and it means you're not going far when you get off your bike. And forget about taking a crap when you stop wherever. I wear jeans when I ride on the street, but everything else is covered.

+100. Id rather sweat a little than bleed ALOT!

I actually said this to a cruiser rider out in Whitby today when he yelled at me, "bit hot for all that gear, isn't it?"

OP, if you get a 1-piece and want to wear it on the street, do so. I couldn't care less if people think I look "stupid." Yeah, well scars look pretty stupid too.

You probably changed his life and entire outlook on riding.

I see ton's of riders in leathers riding around down here, but that's on the back roads. On the highway I see more of the t-shirt and short crowd .

Personally I'd recommend a 2 pc suit with a 360 zipper but that's just me. Maybe even go for perforated leather while your at it. Easy to get in and out of, toss the jacket on the bike or the back of your chair when you stop for more comfort.

2 Piece more versatile. When it starts getting cold I zip my leather jacket onto my goretex pants...in the summer I zip it onto the perforated leather pants...quick trips around town I have the leather jacket on with thick jeans and knox knee protectors and I'm ready to go anywhere after whipping off the knee protectors when I get off the bike. If you have a ton of cash to spend on a 1 piece and all the above then go for it...I don't though.
