With very good reason. Some good ones but almost nothing done to drive out the bad ones (and put them in jail). The thin blue line has been very thick for a very long time and many realize they are invincible.
A nice salary and great pension isn't enough these days. It is crazy the amount of bad apples that get through the rigorous hiring process. Not much better candidates now than in the 70's or 80's when you could show up out of high school and become a police officer, even with all the fancy degrees needed and background checks corruption is still rampant.

In general, I have a fair amount of respect for the position of law enforcement officer, but not so much so for some of the individuals filling these positions.
I went to a very large high school in the early / mid 70's. We had a very large number of students per grade and over 400 people in my final year. As is the custom lots of time that last year was spent talking about post HS plans in terms of college, university, trades, jobs in general. I recall about 10 people saying they were going into law enforcement. Funny thing is that of the 10 stating that intent about half were good guys and the other half would have been voted most likely to end up in jail by their fellow students. These guys caroused around drinking heavily, sold dope, were known to be doing break and enters and always had more money to spend than their circumstances explained. I can't tell you how many of these guys actually made it to be cops, but I shudder to think about their motives for wanting to be one.
Not on the Drug Task Forces. It's an all in or fold situation. My buddy transferred from street patrol to the one in 52 Div. You're either complicit with the shenanigans or you're the first one through the door in every raid (with minimal, take your sweet time backup). He transferred out back to the street ASAP. Out completely the day he hit 20.

I was working with an about to retire cop and he said a lot of new cops with their degrees weren't interested in the day to day stuff. On a joint patrol the newbie ignored a blatant traffic violation, saying he couldn't be bothered. He was waiting to get promoted to a detective.
Then there is the weasel factor. Always have an excuse and a pigeon to blame. Never give a direct answer. Work people against each other and move up the ranks.
Cheapest defense ever. Carry a few grand in cash on you and it buys a get out of jail free card. Police again documented their own theft (like in the Markham casino). Internal police investigation (PSU) found that the stolen $6,000 was not stolen and no discipline was required. How about everybody that touched it gets a formal slap? Maybe that will make the honest ones hand in the criminals? This is just teaching the cops to be better crooks and they will make sure to complete their theft prior to allowing photos.
The court case for a man accused of drug trafficking has been tossed out after an Ontario judge found it "reasonable" to believe that Toronto police stole approximately $6,000 in cash seized while executing a warrant at the man's apartment.
A Niagara police officer has been charged and suspended with pay after a months-long investigation found he was in possession of an unauthorized firearm.
The irony of the guy wearing the DDE sweater. DDE is a big Youtube channel where the main guy films his shenanigans ripping around the streets in supercars always speeding laying down rubber, blurring out his speedometer. Has about 10 videos of himself getting pulled over by police, never shows the footage prior to being pulled over, and ALWAYS plays Mr. innocent, conveniently claiming not speeding or doing anything wrong at time of traffic stop. Lol, not saying this guy deserved to get rear ended that bad but just thought it was funny.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say two police officers were killed in the line of duty Thursday morning.

EDIT:
Neither cop got a shot off. Suspect committed suicide. That's happening in a lot of these cases. Will police start responding to all calls for service guns out? That won't end well either.
