Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Hey guys + girls,

made it to the gap safely after a few delays along the way. Did a few laps of the dragon yesturday, everyone is in one piece. Jesse had oil soaked pads, got that sorted, I had a coolant pressure leak which is hopefully fixed, Tim blew a starter fuse, so he had nothing this morning. All sorted out and ready for a long group ride today. The pirelli DRC's were a good choice for these roads, if you think TMP is tiring, try pacing through the dragon.

You'll get past it :) gotta get back on soon. Don't leave it too late :) like the horse riding right?

PS anyone hear from the boys down at GAP? All in one pice?

Glad to hear u guys made it ok. Ride safe and keep an eye out for those wandering trucks.

found a 40 footer mid corner that makes you pucker a bit, no lead vehicle or flagger, just bang half way in your lane, you learn real quick that there is no outside-inside-outisde here, its stay in the center of your lane or else. Jesse had a close ecnouter with a deer Tim had a close encounter with a black bear today, but so far everyone is good. CBR got a new slip on today. Tim decided to flex his in some small tunnels today that sounded just plain mean. 1 more day, then back to K/W

Today it wasn't a truck we had to worry about.
Randy and I were returning from picking up some parts for him a few hours away, and decided to run the Blue Ridge Parkway for an hour or 2.

I've heard of people getting hit by deer and the likes...

But... I was almost broadsided by a...

BLACK BEAR!!!!

If I was 3 seconds faster things would have ended up in a messy pile of bear'n'buell.

It bolted from the right side of the road across to the left... interesting moment to be sure.

We're back.
13.5 hour drive today including a good 45 minute detour on the I75 in Detroit.. seriously, who shuts and all 3 lanes of an interstate?!! Then, the freakin' detour has construction on it too?!?!?

Left at 5:50am today - just at first light when we reached the Dragon from the Fontana - was full light when we were at the bottom. Man, that's so much better than doing it at night on the way in with a truck and trailer... Kudos to Randy for a successful navigation (both times) in the truck.

Only mishaps were:
Babs blew a fuse for no apparent reason - problem never replicated.
Jesse dropped his CB1 whilst coming to a stop - front brake on, hit a pile of wet grass. Minor damage.
Jin dropped his Ducati on the Dragon - it took a little nibble... Minor damage (amazing - seriously).
Randy's CBR came home with a new exhaust installed.

That is all.

pass on GB this week, need a break after such a crazy week. Thinking TMP on civic holiday, then GB on Aug.16.

I think I'm doing smp on aug. 20, just some advance notice. Might tag along to tmp on civic holiday.

Out for riding this Thursday. Won't have the new rear shock installed yet, and have to flip the front tire too. That, and I spent too much on the vacation... boo hiss....
Will tag along as photographer though, as I'm on vacation.

So

Chain on the bike is nearing the end and I have on other chain with the bike but it's a 525. Now the original chain is 520 and I'm 99% sure the sprockets are 520 as well. What is the risk of using a 525 chain with 520 sprockets? I know the pitch and distance are the same with there being some play side to side with the 525 chain on the 520 sprockets. Everything I've read says the sprockets will wear faster and I'm ok with that, I just don't feel like having the chain slip off or something like that. In planning new chain and sprockets over the winter but i was hoping to get the rest of the season out of what I have. Any guidance from the "gurus" would be appreciated :)

I wouldn't do it but it would probably work.

Upon further inspection ( damn newfangled measuring devices lol) I see I have 525 sprockets as well. Very sweet. So I'm gonna switch the chain and sprocket combo up for the next track day. I believe I'm running 14front and 47 rear and I'll be going to a 15 front and 42 rear ... Quite a change lol :)

Edit .. So I guess that equals 14/45 so I guess it's not that much of a difference. I find at tmp 2nd gear isn't enough but 3rd gear is too much. This should put me in the sweet spot.

Sorry Dan, that's not right. 15 will cause lower revs and 45 will too. 15/45 is about 14/42.

Heres what gearing commander says. Looks pretty good to me. It's about 16% lower rpm at any speed. And yes I am looking for lower rpm as I constantly run out of gear with the current setup in the infield.

I thought -1 in the front was equal to +3 on the rear. That's how I did the math. Am I wrong on that ?

That's correct (approximate), you're going up in the front and down in the rear. 15/45 is a 1:3 ratio, so 14*3=42, 1:3 ratio. 14/47 would be 1:3.35 which is a bit more than 10% change. That's a fairly big step, but if that's what you're going for then go for it. It all depends on the track of course.

going +1 in the front and -3 in the rear is about the same as taking 6 teeth out of the rear. This is a very drastic change. Given it's a 600, I doubt you want to do this since the tracks are low speed here. It looked pretty good the last day at TMP. You looking for more rev's or more top end? Maybe 1 or 2 teeth in the rear change, but I can't see you wanting more than that.

I went -1/0 which wasn't quite enough and -1/+1 was perfect for TMP, which requires the most aggressive gearing ratio of all the tracks IMO.
