Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

I'll be happy with just getting comfortable on the bike and being smooth in/out of corners. I wont, at least for the first little while, be too concerned with times at all.
I've got a key on my ring with the house key, so I can't leave without it! Plus I've got a spare which is sitting beside the van key.
Ok, off to get a few hours of sleep!

Well, Grand Bend was a ton of fun! They ran reverse technical which I really enjoyed, I think I prefer the reverse layouts especially in the S-bends. The turnout was surprisingly strong which had us separated into 3 groups. I also got to work with a SOAR racer a little today and made some major improvements. My pace is getting better and I am feeling more and more confident :D

I am getting more comfortable with having the rear tire slide around a little but had a super scary moment where both front and rear slid out in the carousel  Luckily, it wasn't major and I got control back fairly quickly but was very spooky! Speaking of, there were quite a few crashes today. Luckily, nothing too bad but unfortunately my one buddy with his 09 street R6 laid it down coming into the S-bends. Wasn't too bad and damage is mostly limited to body work. He's planning on getting race fairings and making it a dedicated track bike.

How was SMP? Katatonic, how was your first track day!? Can't wait to hear from you guys!

Glad the weather held out and you were still able to get in some track time.
I was not lied to, SMP was definitely worth the drive! Thanks Tim and Randy for showing me the ropes, let me mooch off your generators (mine fires up just fine, but apparently doesn't actually make any electricity?....) and making today awesome! I couldn't have asked for better support and coaching and I'm already looking forward to the next one
As for my time on the track, I got a good feel for the bike and found a nice rhythm later on in the day which naturally helped with being smooth, and in turn helped with lap times. I'm nowhere near the skill level of most who were there, but I can rest easy tonight knowing I wasn't the slowest!

Katatonic surprised the poop out of me with his lap times at the end of the day. All the way down to 2:19! (yes Dave, consider me B*tch Slapped).

You made admirable progress throughout the day - wish I had learned that quickly! No worries on the generator power - you'll find that the track rider community is a family sort of bunch. We help each other out.

Was a sort of crashy day overall. 3 red flags, a bunch of dumped bikes and a rogue Smergy flavoured knee slider left on the race line in turn 2.

The day was great overall - had a fantastic time, dropped my lap time by a couple of seconds. Think I could have hit the 2 minute barrier if turn 4a-b was clean. Long story there - on Sunday some jacktard in a car blew an oil line and sprayed oil all the way around the track from turn 2 to 12, exactly on the race line. There was a ton of concrete dust from clean up left on track. Unfortunately, the line of it through 4a-b made it difficult - couldn't wrap my brain around the concrete seams, dust line and assorted other annoyances. I lost at least 1 second minus through there.

Overall, the red group was really quick. A couple of serious racers etc. Asked the timing trailer what the best time of the day was - 1:52.

KTM worked great after the repairs. Lost fairing screw which wasn't a big deal.. The big annoyance was losing the bolt that holds the steering damper to the frame. Noticed the bike started behaving oddly under heaving braking and seemed to wiggle a bit more. Looked down between 6-7 and saw the damper dangling around... Was the last session of the day for me, so I called it a day.

Thanks for the kind words, but I've still got a long way to go! So, you ready to show me the ropes at GB soon? lol!
And I figured out the generator issue.....well, rather I was shown the issue. Turns out it was a 'user error' and now I just feel like an idiot. So, power is on me at GB on the 12th for BigEvilDoer and Smergy! It's good for 5000w so should do 3 sets of warmers just fine.

Had a small off and bent my left side rear set and had to end at lunch break. Ordered some replacement parts so we'll see if they are in or not before the 12th. I have my doubts. I have a full day voucher so hopefully I can carry that over until next year. If I can't does anyone want to save a few bucks and buy it from me?

I'm planning on going but will wait until I see what the weather is like before committing.
What do you want for it?

Let me find out if I can use it next year if that's the case I'll keep it. I'll PM you if it has to be used this year and we can talk.

Smergy and BigEvilDoer from yesterday. Sorry for the crappy quality, they were taken with my cell phone....

What were you riding?

Katatonic and Bigevildoer sorry no pictures. The younger kid who didn't ride due to having his wisdom teeth removed the other day only focused on taking pictures of riders that he knew. With the bikes fairly spread out on the track unless you were mid corner with one of us he wasn't going to catch a photo of you.

I will be back at SMP on the 14th helping 2 kids learn to ride their first track day. I won't be riding with my kids that day if anyone wants any assistance.

No worries... thought it might be worth a shot.
Thanks for taking the time to look!

What were you riding?

I was on the silver and blue SV, had the red Honda canopy. I was running green for the first two sessions, talked to the marshal as I wanted to go to yellow, he let me run yellow for a session before lunch and if I felt good I was going to stay for the rest of the day. We went out for the third sessions and were red flagged, I pulled off and when we went back out I lost the front on the left through the bus stop back towards the triple apex. Just got in a little tight and hit the big dip in there and my suspension upset and tucked the front. Bent my shifter arm and rear set a bit on the left side, was shifting but binding. Had to call it a day.

We just have to get you that factory race KTM that the other guy had. He has even more trouble than you keeping the front end down....
Wonder what kind of lap times you could turn on that bike considering he would pull on you on the straights... Maybe a 1:55? Pure conjecture, as you were doing 1:57's according to Katatonic Dave's timing...

Or maybe you should get that KTM :) and we need a day with less garbage all over the surface

hahaha... actually the riding wasn't bad for red group to be honest.

I had to deal with the train of people going well below even a beginners pace! There was one lap towards the end of the day, after I had picked up some speed, where I had to mash the brakes to avoid running into them! I swear, they were near stationary in a corner!
