Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

anyone running dunlop slicks?

thinking of ditching my pirelli sp2 and switching to a slick.

can't do this weekend, but will do next friday july 18th at the bend.

I'm running Dunlop D211GP-A's. They're awesome. Slicks tend to be more sensitive to setup, so I'm going to stick with DOT race tires for now.

do you go through petes dave?

I really like the sp2's. Made me have a lot of confidence in the tire, but want to try something else to compare.

My pirelli superbike pros are apparently designed to be a good in between all out slicks and dot race tires, with no geometry changes really required

Dave, are you running a 190 on the zx6?

I get my tires from Pro6 Cycle. SP!? Not even the SC? SP's are junk. They're OEM street tires for fancy Italian bikes. LOL

Yes. The Dunlop 190 GPA is designed for 5.5" rim. I ran two sets of Bridgestone slicks last year with a 190 rear and it was so much taller than the Dunlop that it put too much weight on the front. Caused geometry tears on the front tire. I tried BS R10's and Pirelli SC's last year on the Ninja too. Both were 180 rears. The R10's are awesome but I killed a rear in one day at TMP. The Pirelli rears were already done when I ran them so I had a really fun track day sliding and spinning everywhere. It was so much fun! Most fun I'd had on a bike in quite a while! Until I got behind some slow guys on Panigale's and couldn't get enough drive to pass them. LOL

just checked my tires, they are SC, not SP. My bad.

Might get some dunlops for the next track day.

Okay, good. I was kinda wondering because I didn't think you'd like the SP.

I think Pro6 might have a sale going right now on GPA's. Unless it was just an "at the track" sale.

That could have been a Daytona compound, but should have been more meat on the left. I don't think those are available here.

I got MED+ (8477) compound. Talked to Sandy about it and it's basically a MED but slightly less grip to allow it to slide at tracks that have such good traction that the MED would chatter rather than slide. I ran them at Shannonville and they were awesome. I was able to spin out of a few corners but certainly wasn't lacking drive or anything.

Yes, the 212 replaces the 211. Maybe ask if they have some 211's left, they just might. Probably get a better price on old stock.

Actually wait a second, the 212 is GP, British, not American. The A in GPA means American. Maybe they're still making the 211 in the 'states. I dunno... Call Pro6. LOL

Unfortunately this is not the case. Superbike pros are like an SC3 tire, a harder compound than race tire, DOT or slick. e.g. I can lap faster on a supercorsa SC2 than I can on a superbike pro. The SC2 is not a race slick. Superbike pros have more mean than the superbikes, but they are about 90% of the grip. They last longer for sure, but watch the heat cycling, they go hard quick. They say you can use them without warmers, but I would not.

which tire are you referring about? The 449 was even on both sides, grips like crazy, but not a lot of meat. I ran the medium compound, 7455 I think it was. Front 448's are fantastic, last forever

what compound did you buy?

I remember talking to a SOAR guy, and he told me that the dunlops he had, had more 'meat' on the right side of the tire, as most tracks have more right turns than left.

I'm just on petes website checking things out.

talk to Orion motorsports out of barrie if your interested in pirelli's.

can only get the 448 in a 200

I have no idea what tire has more meat on one side than the other. I just remember one of the SOAR guys i pitted next to was using them and recommended them.

Looks like rain Saturday and Sunday according to the Weather Network. Might end up being a wash after all... :-(

At least now when I put up the GSXR up for sale in August I can say the rear still is good for a track day and the front for 3-4 more...
Have to put a silver lining on it somehow.

Tim, you know better. Sparky, you're new around here, so I'll cut you some slack, but we DON'T TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER! haha... ;)
