Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Done: Fix bodywork, stator cover, oil change, clutch & brake levers, reroute wiring, rear spools, fix tach cover, duplicate keys.
Waiting on Parts: Frame sliders, tank grips, rear set pegs, front brake pads, race spec brake fluid, Bridgestone S20 tires (to be picked up in April).
Considering: Key/lock removal and replace with switch.

Nice! The S20's for the street or track bike?

Track. Apparently they are used in the GP Endurance races.
Not near fast enough to outride these tires yet. Probably go to Metzeler Racetec K3's next (had them on SV and they were great).

Nice list Tim! I wouldn't bother removing the key/lock if you just made duplicate keys.

Had the same discussion with Steve. Lock mechanism is kind of persnickety and needs to be turned "just right". Figured a switch (similar, but not the same as Steve's infamous "Mystery Switch") would save any potential breakage issues etc... just thinking about it at the moment though.

Persnickety you say? That sounds like a perfunctory conundrum. Spray some Amsoil MP into the cylinder.

I've never ridden the Mosport RDT. I've always wanted to, but now with the Grand Bend track being closer, cheaper and awesome I don't feel the need to bother with the RDT.

The DDT/RDT was fun last time I was on it, very tight but you can get a good pace going in some layouts (I like reverse perimeter). It's been ~10 years since I last raced (in a car) there so I don't know the current condition of it. A really nice mix of speeds and corners, and at the time I vastly preferred it to Cayuga (that's TMP to most of you).

If Grand Bend wasn't 10 hours away from me, I'd probably give it a run, I hear good things here about it.

I keep hearing that it's bumpy, but people say SMP is bumpy and I love SMP. BTW, it's Cayuga to me ;)

10 hours!? Does it take you 3 hours to get through Toronto and then you stop for 2 hours at service stations? Should only take about 5-6 hours. From Kitchener it takes me 1:20 to GB, and 3-3:30 to SMP. Add another :30 to Kingston... What did I miss? You'll enjoy it, it's got great layouts.

You can only tow a 30' camper at 105km/h unless you've got a big turbodiesel or you can live with 5mpg. :)

Throw frequent wife-stops, gas stops and Toronto traffic into that mix and 10 hours isn't unusual. Remember, for me Toronto traffic starts at Port Hope.

I really enjoyed the long tack at GB last year. Much better than TMP (IMO)

I'm thinking of doing the september track day in RDT with GP bikes

Sounds like you need to come to Grand Bend for the weekend to make it worthwhile. :)

its either technical or modified that has the bus stop and the full back straight, thats my fav :)

Brake pads, brake fluid and frame sliders have arrived... temperature in unheated garage isn't very friendly at the moment..
So, those pieces are going to have to wait a bit for installation...

Here's a question for the experienced guys....
Should I bother with warmers for my Battlax S20's? Been thinking about it... but I'd have to be a generator whore and hook up with someone else if possible....

Or.. considering something like this...

Find some other threads here about cheap generators and then make a decision. You know what I decided.

As for warmers on street tires, no, don't do it. They could in fact overheat because they're designed to work at lower temps. I've run very quick times on BT010's, no warmers.

depending on how warm the warmers are, as dave said, street tires are intended for heat cycles, warm up quick and don't need to be as hot to start working, on the flip side, if you do have lower temp, or dual temp warmers, you can go fairly hard out of the gate instead of wasting 1/4 of each track session getting the tires up to temp. Warmers add consistency and safety margin, but you don't "need" them on a street tire.

I didn't get warmers until this year and was running in the red group on Q2's. I think race tires at this point aren't necessary, but they do add safety margin when they are warm.

For the record I was frequently knee down first lap on street tires. A lot of people on GTAM would call me stupid and reckless for that, but whatever. It's true, never had an issue with it, and in fact the only track crashes I've had came on track tires. Once in my first year due to running 35psi cold (nobody told me about pressures) getting in too hot and high-siding, and once throwing it in too hard and smacking an engine case, lifting the front, tucking the front.

Thanks for all the info guys.
Have decided to keep my money until I really need race tires and warmers... maybe next year, but not this (unless I get a smokin' crazy deal).
The S20's will last me the season I'm sure... don't know what I'll run next year - maybe back to the Metzeler Racetec K3's, as I really liked them on Suzi.
