... what do I do? Anyone know of a service that'll pick up from the guy selling a small item and deliver it to Toronto area?

I have offered to pay for shipping and even offered a few extra bucks for his time but no go - he says he'll only do local pick up and yes it is a rare item.

It's a 6 hr 1-way ride doing side-roads or 4+ on the 401. Not doing that unless it's part of a longer trip.

Make a day of it, Ride 7 out and head north or south and ride back.

South of the 401 is some good riding and scenic

If buddy can put it in a box with a label on his step, you can schedule a pickup with any courier company.

I vote go for the ride. 10hrs is the perfect length for a day ride.

A few years ago I rode down to Asheville to pick up some discontinued Givi cases and took the direct way there in 1 day and the scenic route home over 3 days.

Sorry to sound harsh, but you either REALLY want it or you don't.

The seller doesn't want to put in any extra effort and that's his choice. I've driven all over hell's half-acre to pick stuff up that I just couldn't live without.

Courier companies do pickups. Check with them if they willing to come to the guy with an empty box and shipping label printed.
