article says they collected 30m already back in may for the program?

The contract was signed on June 23, but came into effect on May 5, 2020. WE says the May 5 date reflects when it began working on the project and incurring eligible expenditures to design, build and prepare to deliver the program. “Because of the speed with which the program needed to be launched and delivered, WE acted in good faith to undertake these actions before this agreement had been finalized and signed.”
Typically there is a 'kick off' agreement or purchase order. Even if the main contract is cancelled they are likely billing us for all the pre contract leg work.

All WE assets should be frozen and a full investigation should be done for criminal activity on the charity and it's owners
And the CRA oversight (or lack thereof) as charities are normally on a very very short leash. I don't understand how they can be writing five figure cheques out to individuals and donating six figure trips to rich people as a charity. Even if you want to reward your donors, there are very clear guidelines as to what you are allowed to do and that is not within the guidelines. This has gone on for decades, it's not like they had went on a bender for a year or two..

Do they need more time to convince a civil servant to take the fall?

Well WE has enough squirelled away to write a fat bribe (I mean hire a consultant). It shouldn't be that hard to find someone that wants seven figures to put their hand up.

Has WE already put a downpayment on a building with the 30 million? They're "negotiating" repayment.

Or already in a Cayman Bank

Since the deal was with a shell corporation with no history or assets, we have little recourse to get the money back (especially if there is political push from the top to disappear any scandal regardless of cost). The kielbergers could use the 20 as a parting gift from JT. Their testimony will be interesting. They may be super ****** they missed out on their cut of the phantom 400 (which may easily have been 400).

Kielburger testimony is painful. It's like watching JT's siblings weasling their way around every answer. From five seconds of watching, they are slightly less weasly and entitled and obviously smarter than JT but you still want to punch them when they open their mouths.

EDIT:
Liberal MP Dzerowicz was embarassing. She spent her time talking about how great WE is, how great the kielburgers are and how awesome this program was. This is an investigation not a bleeping rah rah WE day. Her job was obviously positive spin.

PP asked them straight up how much they had given the JT's family. First they went on and on about standard practice is to reimburse, then PP interrupted them and asked for a number. Then they said MT came to 28 days and average was $6000, ST came to 7 days and average was $3000 etc. PP asked for the total and they said they didn't know because they didn't have a calculator. PP said to calculate an average you needed the total and you just don't want to say the number as it looks bad. Kielburgers had no response to that.

WE continuing to say that they will give all the money back also makes no sense. You are a charity. Based on the dates, it is likely that you wrote up millions in expenses for this program (how much of that was real/justified is a separate question). So, no problem, we'll just use some of the charity money to pay expenses? Again, sounds like an amazing "charity". I think the real charity is everyone personally associated with WE that siphons off the vast majority of their income.

Even when they announce that they spent money on something that could be real, a cursory review shows smoke. Recently they published some crap like "we spent xxx,xxx dollars to educate xxx,xxx people on covid in africa". People asked them how they got such specific numbers (down to the dollar and person) and what it was that they actually did and were met with a vacuum. Talk to a real charity and they will be able to tell you exactly what they did, who they paid, who they helped, etc. What do you want to bet that that campaign was flying a private jet full of supporters to africa and yelling covid facts out the window of a private helicopter tour?

Other celebrities who may be arguably more famous than Trudeau's mother and brother, have come out and said that WE's stand practice is to not pay for speaking engagements. What does that say about both them and the current government?

It's a shell organisation to funnel taxpayer money out of government coffers and into the back pockets of politicians.

Question for ya. Has anyone ever heard of this WE charity prior to this current corruption scandal? I hadn't.

Well, apparently they have been well funded by government (and politicians) for quite a while. It seems like the whole thing is just a shell for embezzlement and illegal campaign contributions. I still haven't found something that they actually did that was charitable and helped anyone in need. Just press releases on how awesome they are.

So I just noticed something interesting in a 680 news article. It could be bad reporting or more stink.

" WE was paid its first fees of $19.5 million on June 30 "
" Three days later, the organization backed out of the agreement. It has promised to repay every dollar it received, about $30 million, but was still sorting that out details. "

So they got the first payment of 19.5 and in less than three days, they had already received another 10.5? So prior the the program start with a (theoretical) hard cap of 43.5 for WE, WE had been fronted 30? Why two payments in less than three days? If I get a retainer and decide to dump the job three days later (which I wouldn't do), I don't need to figure out out the details, I just write a cheque for the retainer amount received. Any costs incurred are my problem not the clients.

the big company's going to drop WE like a hot potato, they don't want the stink on them

Follow the money. When they drop WE because of the stink, look for a similar donation to another charity you haven't heard of. Dig into that charity and look for transfers to the LIberals. It wouldn't be too much work to make the books with dirt for that charity won't be submitted until after the election.

Should be an interesting time Thursday when JT testifies. He'll be in super Ummmm ....Ahh mode. He get's like that when the heat is on and his tiny brain is searching for the right words to speak (moistly).

Who on earth gets close to 1/2 million$ to do a speech at a charity? What kind of person takes it from a charity? I'm thinking that Margaret Trudeau had to split that dough with someone, possibly Justin? This whole thing really stinks.

Not "a" speech. MT got 250K to do 28 speeches. Still sketchy as a charity. That's a lot of money to pay someone the kids have never heard of and dont care about.
