Just had my motorcycle stolen from my driveway. Everyone watch your bikes

I've had mine stolen from the street in broad day light. really sucks man.

+1 Whats the main intersection you live around?

I've had 3 bikes stolen.

A VFR off the street in California, which I got back (joyride).

A GSXR1100 out of a shop.

A KX250 out of a garage.

It ALWAYS sucks. But at least you know that other people think you have great taste in bikes.

I'm presently keeping an eye on a white van in my area... Paranoia - Destroya - Whatever... I'm still checkin it out.

Yup, I often park my bike on the road outside my gym and I can keep an eye on it while I'm on the treadmill. Saturday morning some guy in a minivan pulled up in front of it, got out and started taking pictures. I ran out, all covered in sweat and said "whats up". Turned out he was just a fan of the bike and asked me a few questions about riding in Toronto. I still took a note of his licence plate number!

Good idea. You can download pictures off the net so I wouldn't buy that story.

post a few pics of the bike and the VIN, often bikes like show up at the track or on kijiji as track bikes

Pro's can steal a bike in about a min flat. I remember there was a video online where 3 - 4 guys broke into a motorcycle dealership, and stole 3 - 4 bikes and apparel in about 3 mins.

I make a point of taking phone-camera pictures of any van or truck idling on my street and stand by the garage entrance while the door closes if I see vans. I can pull the plate number from it using image processing software.

Does not help the OP but I am thinking maybe we should design a stink bomb for our bikes that will only go off if the bike is on its side (and it is armed). That way the thieves need to decide if they want to stay in the van right after stealing the bike... Stink can be washed off the bike.

I was thinking smoke bond but if it goes off by accident you may end up with a fire department call, stink bomb just stinks!

Go by the van and yell TIMMAYYY..if someone answers then go hide your bike

When I'm not home and my bike is in my garage, I leave my 150lbs king Shepperd in the garage with his food and water. I dare someone to come try take my bike. My dog is vicious to people he doesn't know lol

Were the seats removed from the van? Did he already know a lot about the bike, if so then he should be past the pictures stage. Or what was it about the bike that made him a fan? What was he doing in town, how did he happen to have some time to kill and a camera in hand? Was the bike visible from the street?

Fishy, fishy, fishy.

A couple weeks ago a white van covered with orange stickers which advertised a newspaper distributor drove down my street while I was working on my bike in the garage and it drove by slowly (there were a couple other bikes there). I was watching the guy drive by and he stopped about 2 houses down, looked like he wrote something down, made a U-Turn and went back from the way he came.
I found that kind of suspicious so I decided to do a little research of that company name I saw. (It was best news or best (something) I searched the name of the business on google, no results. I searched canada411 and yellowpages with the phone # I saw - no results. I find that really fishy and am always on the lookout for that van now. Kind of worried that they're just waiting for the right time to steal the bikes.
I guess thats what theft insurance is for...

WENT SWIMMING AT THE POOL YESTERDAY with my son.
we parked the bike in front of the window by the water slide between 2 benches. told the people who work there didnt tust the parking lot and they where fine with it. I never park in a parking lot and she stays locked in the garage all night every night. I also installed a garage door opener with flipping signals and a vacation lock out switch so it can no be operated at all at night.

the way you caps lock ur story i was expecting another theft story..

but yea i rarely park my bike at parking spots either now. unless it's well lit and by the door where lots o' people come and go through

This is my first year with a bike and I was wondering.. places like downtown parkign garages...are they safe? underground hotel parking etc as well. I know condo's are the worst, just wondering how bad the other parking places are. I'm always worried parking my bike, unless its in a busy area

It's all the same. I'm sure even if you were to park your bike outside with people around and a van comes up to your bike and loads it up, no one will do anything to stop them.
Get theft insurance.

Just so you know, the plates are always stolen, the number will do you no good :(

There was that video on youtube of young street, where the white dodge caravan pulled up, cut the chain lock, three guys picked it up and stuffed it in the van with the disc lock alarm going off the whole time. Total elapsed time from when the van pulls into the frame, steals the bike and drives out of the frame, 27 seconds :(
