Oddly enough speeding up to block a pass is also a HTA 172 charge. It's defined as 'racing.'
Good point, but then again, EVERYTHING is contrary to HTA 172. That's the glory of it!

FYI: I received a speeding ticket in Tennessee for doing 12 mph over and paid the fine. I read on this forum if I paid the fine it wouldn't show up on my abstract, but if I didn't pay, it would. Seems to be true as the ticket happened last May and I got my abstract last week with it clean as a virgin's sheets.

What I do wrong is pass people because I ride/drive +15 - +20 on two lane roads and most people drive +5. Most people get upset for some reason. I believe, from talking to many of them, that they feel I don't need to be going faster than they are and they will teach me a lesson by making it difficult for me to pass.
It doesn't happen only when I'm driving. Almost anytime I'm in a car that passes someone else the same thing happens. I suppose it may just be that I'm giving off some sort of sonic annoyance beam though.
I didn't know Tennessee sent tickets cross border? I've never paid a ticket in the US and none of them have affected me here. This includes the states that supposedly have agreements with Ontario: NY, PA, MI, IL
+1 People just don't like to be passed period. Even the ones cruising at or below the speed limit. As soon as they see a car change lanes to get by they speed up. This really is a form of racing even though the speeds are kept relatively low and something I wish cops actually looked for. Besides ego, I think rush hour habit is also a contributor. Rush hour driving in Toronto isn't fun, especially when inconsiderate drivers pull ***hole maneuvers to squeeze in front of you. I suppose one can get used to not letting people in.

I think sometimes the speeding up is an involuntary reaction to being passed. I've caught myself speeding up without really thinking about it when being passed. There is probably some sort of psychological/physiological reason that causes some people to just naturally accelerate when they see a car going faster then they are going. Not saying this is always the case as I'm sure there are many drivers who "mess" with people passing them.
I cannot tell you how many times (ESPECIALLY here in the North) I get passed only for the person to immediately slow to my speed. I have a feeling it's one or a combination of 3 things.
1. Small penis syndrome, i.e. in my case people in big SUVs and pickups feel the need to pass my Mitsu cause they think their big bad V6 F150 shouldn't have to follow (despite my 409hp at all 4 wheels...)
2. You WANT to go faster, then lose your nerve when you're out alone up front. I.e. realize you'd be screwed if you hit a speed trap
3. You realize 5km/h faster isn't a big difference, then just fall in line and match traffic's speed anyways.
lol, just lol.
