Just got a speeding ticket while passing a slow car....really?

FYI: I received a speeding ticket in Tennessee for doing 12 mph over and paid the fine. I read on this forum if I paid the fine it wouldn't show up on my abstract, but if I didn't pay, it would. Seems to be true as the ticket happened last May and I got my abstract last week with it clean as a virgin's sheets.

I didn't know Tennessee sent tickets cross border? I've never paid a ticket in the US and none of them have affected me here. This includes the states that supposedly have agreements with Ontario: NY, PA, MI, IL

Oddly enough speeding up to block a pass is also a HTA 172 charge. It's defined as 'racing.'

What I do wrong is pass people because I ride/drive +15 - +20 on two lane roads and most people drive +5. Most people get upset for some reason. I believe, from talking to many of them, that they feel I don't need to be going faster than they are and they will teach me a lesson by making it difficult for me to pass.

It doesn't happen only when I'm driving. Almost anytime I'm in a car that passes someone else the same thing happens. I suppose it may just be that I'm giving off some sort of sonic annoyance beam though.

+1 People just don't like to be passed period. Even the ones cruising at or below the speed limit. As soon as they see a car change lanes to get by they speed up. This really is a form of racing even though the speeds are kept relatively low and something I wish cops actually looked for. Besides ego, I think rush hour habit is also a contributor. Rush hour driving in Toronto isn't fun, especially when inconsiderate drivers pull ***hole maneuvers to squeeze in front of you. I suppose one can get used to not letting people in.

As the saying goes, your a moron if your driving slower than me, and an idiot if your driving faster. Some people just can't be pleased.

I think sometimes the speeding up is an involuntary reaction to being passed. I've caught myself speeding up without really thinking about it when being passed. There is probably some sort of psychological/physiological reason that causes some people to just naturally accelerate when they see a car going faster then they are going. Not saying this is always the case as I'm sure there are many drivers who "mess" with people passing them.

I cannot tell you how many times (ESPECIALLY here in the North) I get passed only for the person to immediately slow to my speed. I have a feeling it's one or a combination of 3 things.

1. Small penis syndrome, i.e. in my case people in big SUVs and pickups feel the need to pass my Mitsu cause they think their big bad V6 F150 shouldn't have to follow (despite my 409hp at all 4 wheels...)
2. You WANT to go faster, then lose your nerve when you're out alone up front. I.e. realize you'd be screwed if you hit a speed trap
3. You realize 5km/h faster isn't a big difference, then just fall in line and match traffic's speed anyways.

I was under the impression that anything below 49km the speed limit considered minor? If so how is he dropping it to 109 make any difference? Just fight the ticket, if the cop shows up then pay if you don't want to go further if he doesn't your off the hook.

And to Mr. MT I personally do not have any issues with people going the speed limit just if it's a single lane highway please let others who wants to go faster past. If it's a multiple lane stay in the right lane and not coast at the "fast" lane. If there's a speed trap then so be it, let's not play any mind games with others. Now I don't condone speeding like it's a race track but I do believe in going with the flow. Now before someone mentions "if majority are going 180km will you go with the flow then".....how many people do you see going at that speed? Majority are doing +10 maybe +20. I honestly think the minimum speed on the highway should be increased by 10km. I don't think the brain can differentiate between 100km and 110km anyways. Why slow people down most of the time we're stuck in traffic anyways. If there was no speedometer in a car, I wonder what speed drivers would be going at just by feel.....

On the bike, I tend to pass every SUV/truck/bus/large vehicle I come across because they bock my view of the cars in front of said car. I wish all cars would just be sedans or coupes -_-. Sadly SUVs are last era's mini vans now.

On the car...I could give two *****. I drive the speed limit and rarely pass anyone. I don't have a penis when driving a RAV4, some ****** Buick or an old TL.

I don't mind getting pass or letting people change into my lane as long as they "SIGNAL". Too many ******* will just cut in front of you aggressively like two feets in front of your bumper!

On my bike, I feel people want to pass me even more for some strange reason, maybe it feels good to pass a bike?

my silent protest while driving my car in Ontario, is to religiously drive the posted limit in the most right lane; i know it annoys people around me, but maybe it'll get them to pick up the phone and speak to local councilmen... possibly get a speed study going, and increase the limit

driving 100kph in the far-right lane gets me 42mpg, so it is worth it to slow down if you're not in a rush; but i'm overtaken by all walks of life, which doesn't bother me whatsoever

i actually find driving at 100 v. 140 a much more relaxing experience, there isn't any more "get-infront"itus; usually in heavy traffic, the slowest stop&go lane is the far left lane, whereas the right lane moves forward at an appreciable speed

I drive to and from work on the 401 and I have noticed right lane is usually the new passing lane, oassionally I have passed cars at 100 km/hr and left them behind so I'd assume they are not going any faster than 70 or 80. When I learned driving in 97 we were told to drive in the right lane, nowadays I see driving school cars in the left lane. I think we need more education not just hand everyone a licence who knows ow to use the gas and the brake.
the drivers today are more unsafe people just turn in front of u without checking even If they are just one car length from u.
