Just got a speeding ticket while passing a slow car....really?

Any speeding ticket will go on your abstract and there is a very good chance it will effect your insurance.

That one time free ticket thing is odd. never heard of it before. Are you sure it's not a one time free accident/claim?

this is true, don't ask me how i know...lol

#1: You never go over the posted speed limit to pass a vehicle or therefore you are speeding and being unsafe.
#2: You got it lowered, be happy.
#3: You just complained that you can't speed more then 10km over the limit now; You clearly haven't learned the lesson from receiving your ticket.
#4: The ticket is 125 dollars, suck it up. I personally would love you to fight a ticket that has already been dropped. You received the ticket due to your ignorance to the rules of the road. In this case that would be the posted speed limit. If it says 80km, you can only pass at 80km. If buddy in front of you is going 75km, enjoy the fuel savings from not hammering the accelerator and then getting a ticket for your idiotic behavior.
#5: People like you scare me, the absolute lack of intelligence befuddles me. If you didn't realize why you got the ticket, or didn't think you "Deserved It" (which you did), then why not ask the officer? He would tell you the same as I have, without making you feel like an absolute moron for your utter lack of common sense.
#6: Stay away from me on the roads, you're that guy who sits on my *** because I'm doing 82 in an 80. Wait until you get brake checked and ram your windshield into my tow hitch and have to buy me a new one! ;)

you make a big deal about the guys ticket then say that you would do something so dangerous as slaming on your brakes if someone is on your ***, are you really that retarded you could seriously hurt someone doing it and not just that if you get someone like me thats prepared for morons like you , after you slam on your brakes i would then pass you then slam on my brakes and get out and see if your as tough outside of your truck as you are when your driving your truck

OP, try a first attendance and see if the prosecutor will do anything for you unless you really do get one free minor on your policy. Seems like you got hit with some back luck. I passed 3 transports all doing 75ish in a 90 on Hwy 17 at around 130-140, OPP car that came after me didn't bother pulling me over when I dropped back down to 90-95 after I was in front.

Anything I said was in honest opinion, no need to bash. All I was stating was the obvious, or at least what I thought to be obvious. I was clearly too stern with what I said. Yes, I received a seat belt ticket pulling out of a gas station. What part of that is unsafe for others? This is a rhetorical question. As for the brake checking, it was a joke!

To the MOD: Read the sub-forum Rules, will be sticking to them.

No question is a bad question. Never tried to rub anyone the wrong way, especially being "New to the Forum". That clearly happened, what's done is done.

Cheers.

Sure, it was "a joke". More like an arrogant post made when you didn't expect those posting in the thread to support the OP and now you're backing down. If you don't want to "rub anyone the wrong way" keep your asinine, hypocritical thoughts to yourself and you'll even earn more respect from the forum body if you stick to your guns, as unpopular as they may be in this case. Don't act like you're "kidding" when you make an overly aggressive post berating the OP for exceeding the speed limit by a whopping 18km/h. You're trying to tell me you've never sped in your Z28? Right, just like my Evo and 675 stay at or under the limit at all times. Or better yet, take your own advice from "#6", sell your bikes and stick to making passive-agressive DANGEROUS moves with your big-boy cage.

One of the appeals with respect to HTA 172 charges was about a woman who was driving on Hwy7 up around Madoc and pulled out to pass a transport that sped up when she was alongside, with an oncoming car ahead. She had to hit something like 140 to get around safely. She got nailed by OPP for it.

Rightfully so, she could have slowed back down instead.

Anyways, safe driving and keep the speed down lol! Saves gas, money in tickets and lives.

Couldn't agree more.

OP, you mention that if someone follows the speed limit they will be tailgated? Luckily my experience has not been like that when I drive.if you tailgate someone for following the rules of the road, you are the worst kind of driver there is.

There is a point of no return where it becomes as dangerous to slow down, as it is to speed up. There's also no guarantee that the truck driver who was blocking her in the first place would let her get back over.

The blame belongs with the driver who was behaving in an aggressive manner.

When I first received my M2 and was brand new to riding I was very aware of the posted speed limit and keep to it(you know the safety thing.) The trouble was tail gating and frustrated motorists passin ubsafely because I was not going with the speed of the surrounding traffic. I was taught During the Canada safety course at Durham College, and fully agree the safest speed is what every one else is going. Damn the posted speed limit.

And I hope you are not one of those drivers that enter the 401 at 80KpH, I hate them!

Fight the ticket or at least play it out and make sure the cop appears

I'd claim the car being passed forced you to a higher speed

I got a speeding ticket for passing another car and a cop saw me going 118km/h. He lowered it to 109km/h which then makes its a minor ticket so I will pay it but I'm still ****** off. Why the **** do you give ticket to somebody passing another car? When you pass a car aren't you supposed to do it fast and safely? I want to know your thought about it. Now I'm stuck going no more than 10km/h over the speed limit for the next 36 months, it sucks!

Go get disclosure. See if there are some holes.

Seeing as how cars intentionally try to injure and riders, brake checking isn't exactly a tasteful joke.

and if you're in front? Am I supposed to just keep speeding up until I notice I'm going faster than everyone else.

I WILL NOT enter the highway until I am doing the speed limit, and then nly stay in the right lane so as to not block speeders.

Oh sorry Rob, you're right as always. Someone accelerating to not let someone pass is definitely expecting them to suddenly slow down. I agree they both were at fault.

And I'll remember that if you ever post about someone speeding up to block your pass.

I speed up a lot when passing - due largely to the fact that almost everytime I do pass, the jerk I'm passing speeds up dramatically. Almost everytime.

Also, the most dangerous thing about passing is the time you're spending in the opposite lane. A wise person limits that as much as possible, notwithstanding that it's illegal.

Rightfully so, she could have slowed back down instead.

Bull crap. Speeding up to block a pass is a dangerous and aggressive move. When someone does that to me they also brake with me to prevent me pulling back in. Their tiny ego's have been injurred or their sense of vigilante justice has been tweaked and they must make me pay for my "crime" of trying to pass them. My best and safest solution is to quickly tap the brakes then, while they brake, floor it and get past them.

I find this particularly charming when I'm driving an unmarked emergency vehicle. Of course, when the moron speeds up to block my pass in that situation I light them up and shake my head as they freak out and pound their brakes.

Exactly. But it is far easier for the cop to just note the speed alert on their detector and ticket the speeder. Easier to prove in court for them too, which is what it's all about, unfortunately.

I know this forums is not all butterflies, candy canes and sugar plum fairies but something things do not need to be said and some opinions are just better kept to yourself!

Sorry for my rudeness... And be sure to buckle up before you put your vehicle in gear!

Wow, talk about hypocrisy. How about you stay away from me and the rest of us. You're obviously the self-righteous type who can't stand it when others don't live by your rules. Don't use the HTA to justify your homocidal driving.

To the OP, tough luck man but as you said 1 km/h over the limit is still speeding. That being said, it's a crummy move on the cop's part IMO. 120 km/h is normal on the 400 series and I've often passed cops near that speed without issue. I agree with you that it's better to make a quick pass then to take forever passing at the speed limit. It's especially worse when said slow-poke is driving in the passing lane next to other slow-pokes. Just gotta be constantly on the lookout... all part of the game.

I'd love to see the minimum speed on the highway set at least at 90km/h and visibly posted. Anything less is unsafe and impedes an already congested artery.

If you meet an ******* in the morning he may be an *******, if you meet a bunch of ******** during the day, YOU may be THE *******.

I'm not calling YOU an ******* per se. However, if your having THAT many issues, perhaps it's something YOU'RE doing wrong.

FYI: I received a speeding ticket in Tennessee for doing 12 mph over and paid the fine. I read on this forum if I paid the fine it wouldn't show up on my abstract, but if I didn't pay, it would. Seems to be true as the ticket happened last May and I got my abstract last week with it clean as a virgin's sheets.

Let's avoid the insults people. You can get your point across without making it necessary for me to ban you ;)

Oddly enough speeding up to block a pass is also a HTA 172 charge. It's defined as 'racing.'

I'm generally pretty good at following rules but in the UK I was taught to minimise risks while driving and one of those risks is the amount of time you may spend in another lane when passing. We were taught that when you commit to a safe pass every action should be positive and quick, pull out..pass quickly..pull back in. I can't stand it when someone passes me with a speed differential of 2kmh because they are using cruise control as it just seems so unsafe. I usually end up slowing down a little just to let them get past.

So, in this case OP, I hope all goes well for you. It would be good if a little latitude was shown in this regard although I could see how that latitude could be abused by certain people "oh yes your honour, I was just passing slower cars, it's just that the line of slower cars was 25km long".

What I do wrong is pass people because I ride/drive +15 - +20 on two lane roads and most people drive +5. Most people get upset for some reason. I believe, from talking to many of them, that they feel I don't need to be going faster than they are and they will teach me a lesson by making it difficult for me to pass.

It doesn't happen only when I'm driving. Almost anytime I'm in a car that passes someone else the same thing happens. I suppose it may just be that I'm giving off some sort of sonic annoyance beam though.
