From talking to a lot of Indian and Sri Lankan acquaintances it's actually VERY popular here and getting bigger by the year, apparently there is something like 400+ teams in the GTA alone.
 
Milton has a league and they play every weekend at the field behind a school by my place...I watch from time to time and it's neat to watch but confusing...now mind you, I never looked up the rules or anything so that's probably why...😎
