I don't find it spectacular that spending 200 grand or more on a gtr and modifying it that much gets you an 8 second car. Is it impressive fast? Yes. Can that be done to just about any car for that kind of money? Yes.
Focusing on the acceleration or flat out speed is oversimplifying it since it isn't the most important aspect of the car. The thing is a cornering monster that sounds great and has a calm, quiet, relaxing interior with aircon, a navi, and a sound system. Basically the guy driving it could be smoking a cigar and getting road head while traveling 300+ km/h in a snowstorm. The acceleration is a bonus... it's not everyday that a 100k car does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and a stock quarter mile in the 10s.
The gearbox crapping out while doing launches is an AWD problem, not necessarily a GTR problem. I think everything from a 20yr old 3000GT to an Aventador will wreck the gearbox/diffs/transfer case eventually if you get too happy with the launch control.
