Is there a discord?

I joined here years ago when I first started riding to meet people for rides. Haven't owned a bike in many years and excited to be riding again, but forums seem so old school nowadays

You can check out the rides/hookups section for rides and meetups, but I agree for impromptu spontaneous rides, its not the best.

God. I'd have to actually listen to people gush about their bike?

I don't mind setting one up, have been thinking about this as well. You can mute the chatter if it ends up being too much. Might make it easier to organize rides and stuff if folks are not comfortable giving out cellphone numbers and the like.

Ok, here's the link. Still figuring out moderation and user roles, as well as topic specific channels.

Anyone who joins should have limited ability to do anything, I'll move you into a role once you're in and I can confirm who you are. Just wanted to make sure the server stays as free of bots and spam as possible.

It's not a "business" so mentioning the existence of whatever this is, is not advertising. It's not us running it, it's you, so whatever happens is on you, not us. I don't even know what "discord" does.

It's a voice chat thingy where people can say "hey I like bikes" and someone else says "cool I like bikes too".

Low emphasis on the voice part, though. It's kinda like a melding of IRC and Skype... and forums. Functionally, a Discord "server" is a small social community that's easy to set up. They're nice, but it's more useful if you join multiple servers. A more cursed way to describe it would be MS Teams but for fun

So this falls in the same category as the GTAM Steam group (but not the FB page which I think Paul actually runs).

Lmao!

It's a platform for communication. While voice is a heavy component to use in gaming, I use discord everyday, and almost never used voice chat. Each server (equivalent of a forum) has many separate chat channels. It allows for instant messaging. Best comparison I'd say is being somewhat similar to Slack

^this

People get hung up on the audio communication, but its also very handy for instantaneous group chats/texts.

The interface and synergy with the modern phones is also much better than a web browser or tapatalk etc.

Meh do we need another piece of software to talk about the same stuff we talk about on here? 🤷‍♂️

Is there any retention to the chats, like a search for meetups, how to fix something, best road etc?

Yes you can search stuff. And even pin messages/notes to each ‘area’
