Is there a discord?

Meh do we need another piece of software to talk about the same stuff we talk about on here? 🤷‍♂️

Is there any retention to the chats, like a search for meetups, how to fix something, best road etc?
Yeah that was my dilemma as well but I do use Discord for other special interests (fountainpens/gaming/friend groups) which already have a presence on their own forums of sorts (Reddit) so I figured it was worth a shot.

There is a search function and you can organize sections and threads just like the forums so that's all redundant in function. The difference is in being able to engage with others quicker, say you're at a meet and you want to see if anyone else from GTAM is there, or you're planning out a ride and want to hammer out details without exchanging phone numbers.

I can see quite a bit of overlap, but I also see some features served by Discord that a forum doesn't offer. Much in the same way that Facebook or Instagram would go for a different kind of engagement.

My utopian dream would be for discord to be for short-form or live interaction (folks who are into video games can play together), and the forums remains as the primary hub for discourse, advice, questions, classified, etc.

It's one of those "all the cool kids are doing it" things.

I grew up on IRC and forums, Reddit was as "progressive" as I thought I would need to get. Now there's a service for everything under the sun. Can be good and bad, depending on how overwhelmed you feel.

I'm sure there once was a thought that ran something like so: "what do I need email for, I'm perfectly fine with waiting 1-2 weeks for a letter to arrive".

I prefer to use forums because
A: I'm old
B: I can find them in a search engine
C: I feel they are better organized than Reddit or (God forbid) Facebook groups, especially for follow up posts, like technical assistance.

And this is it right here, I didn't want anyone to feel alienated, or to split the community. There's a wealth of knowledge to be had here, neatly organized amongst the banter. It's why I love forums, and why I'm sad to come across a dead one (every Suzuki Marauder/Intruder forum these days).

The intention is to add it as a resource for the community, not move or replace it.

Think of it as a faster way to reach people/info as required.

That all makes sense to me. To avoid drawing away useful content, it may make sense to limit the scope of discord posts. Something along the lines of rides/hookup and pms only. Not my server, not my rules though.

Yeah but I bet you have the in game harley motorcycle mount...;)
please, I am strictly a dragon rider, like a targarian.
