Is There a Decent Mesh Jacket For Hot Weather?

I've been pretty happy with the Joe Rockets Mesh jacket I got (full armor, back arms etc). Also came with a zip in inner/outter layer for rain, cooler days. But I have nothing to compare it to since it's the only 1 I have purchased.

I’ve been very pleased with my JR mesh jacket. It’s also the only one I’ve owned so take it fwiw.

Have you tried an evaporative vest that you soak with ice water? It works well for an hour or so.

At the track I've gone a step further and spray myself down with one of these things between sessions. It's been an almost literal lifesaver on the 40+ degree humidex days. The sun nicely warms the water too, so it's not such a shock when you douse yourself.

External cooling is better than relying on sweat to do the same job - before getting the sprayer I was drinking liters of water per trackday but still getting headaches because I didn't realize that I was sweating and pissing out all of my electrolytes. I can drink a lot less water now.

As for mesh jackets, my favorite is a 20 year old FirstGear Mesh-Tex jacket. Full doubled mesh everywhere, with a really comfortable nylon liner. The silver colour does help in the direct sun, but bug guts show up pretty bad. I sort of wish I'd bought it in a couple of different sizes, because later versions of the same jacket got progressively cheaper and less comfortable.

This is what I have and must admit I only have used it twice on long trips and then wondered about the room it took up when not used.

Klim Induction. Probably have 30000kms use on it and still holding up fine.

Cheaper option: Revit Eclipse
More expensive version: Revit Whitby (though it’s not a jacket and not mesh, but awesome in warm weather and has CE AA certification)

I have a perforated leather suit for the track.

Surprised at how well it flows air. Obviously nowhere as good as mesh, but still very effective, especially at high speeds.
Yup, mine is perforated too. Also has little air scoops/ducts on the shoulders which look like gimmicks, but which actually work quite well. The killer is sitting around in the pits for 40 minutes between sessions, even with the suit top peeled off under a shelter with a fan.

Same thing as sitting in traffic. It just sucks. On the street I've done some stupid, impatient things in traffic in order to get moving and get some air, which is one reason why I don't commute much on the bike anymore.

I have a Alpinestars Leonis Drystar Air Jacket. Comes with CE level 2 shoulders and elbow armor. I put a full CE2 back protector in it(Nucleon KR1i) and it can take CE2 chest armor too. I love it except the color I got it in. Problem is, the jacket wont fall apart, even after 4 years and >60,000km. It's reserved in appearance, has lots of reflective, its more for the upright riding position but its got enough material that you can tuck all you want. It's mesh so it'll flap about if you don't have the arm adjusters done properly, but the flapping helps on the hottest days.

It's an older design but honestly, I can't find another mesh jacket that justifies me throwing out this one. Just don't get it with the white mesh like I did. It permanently stains with road grime. I got it all white thinking hot day so light colors, but exhaust, bugs, chain lube and now its all spackled even though it gets washed several times a year.

Can concur. 3 days of 27/31/26 and i'm glad my suit was perforated. Under that I have a onesie moisture wicking underwear, was amazing. The breezes in Grand Bend just go right through you.

I'm typically riding in plus 30 weather and have a forever old JR mesh shorty that I THOUGHT would be the coolest but in reality my cheapie HWK ballistic is cooler due to the air flow, from the open cuffs and the double vents per side plus it is available in white.

Price is right and fit is excellent.
Was not happy with the durability of their pants but the jacket has held up well tho it is getting a red tinge from Aus dust.
I still wear the JR as it is lighter.

I'd like to get the Rev'it Eclipse but not available in Aus tho the AIrwave 3 Jacket is.
Hard to justify as I have two very useable jackets and tapering to the end of my riding in a to forseeable future. Plus the HWK is keeps me really cool. Pensioner budget does not allow a lot of flex.

I got the Airwave 3 silver pants. Available sizing is good and nice fit once they break in a bit plus the white really helps in the sun.
They are not a cool as the HWK mesh pants ( discontinued now ) but are much better made so they will see out my riding career.

You might look at the Motoport that Shane is selling if you're the right size:

They're down in the States and expensive:

Supposed to be good protection.
It's a very good mesh jacket, but too small of the OP. The air flow is really good because the entire jacket is made from a mesh material, as opposed to vents or mesh panels. Their design is a little frumpy, so these jackets should only be worn by good looking people, otherwise the frumpiness really takes over.

I also own an Olympia mesh jacket similar to their Airglide stuff, and it's also very good for airflow, but the crash protection of Olympia mesh gear is very minimal compared to the robust construction and materials of the Motoport.

Seeing as how I don't have a proper mesh jacket, I might just start wearing the Motoport again.

Freeze water bottles, hold on your neck viens. It cools me down faster than anything else.

I started with a Joe Rocket mesh jacket, at least 20 years old with a waterproof hot liner (I used liner once) still have it. It was made in Korea, so has to be good stuff. My latest set up if it is going to be hot and humid is an old Rukka Air Power Airvantage that I bought used and is too big, but flows so much air. The liner is Gortex with a straw that you can blow air in to add insulation (Michelin man sort of). I found this combo, without the liner and the moisture wicking VNM Sport Gear underlayers (I got that from vendor on this site, I think, where is she anyway?) really keep me cool.
One time I was on a long fall ride, using the Rukka with the liners and decided to use the VNM as an under layer. The temperature was around 12C and I froze, those moisture wicking things were the only thing different on this fall ride, usually I wear jeans and long sleeve Ts. I had to pull over and put on my heated liner. So a shout out to moisture wicking cooling stuff.

Funny how much energy we pour into keeping cool when we freeze our as** most of the year, this should be welcomed.

I got the same one in blue from Cycle World's receivership sale and wore it up until last year when I finally upgraded to the Scorpion. Great jacket.
