Is Canada next?

While clearing booze off the shelves sounds good, that is already bought and paid for. All you are doing is increasing costs. Selling out stock and refusing to re-order until at least a month after tariffs are removed seems more effective.
LCBO would remove stock then dump it into foreign markets.

Over 10% of US name-branded spirit production is purchased by Ontario. A stop buy would send a shock wave through the industry, dumping 3 months of inventory your largest customer's inventory into the market would be excruciating.

US Bourbon makers are struggling as it is, this could collapse or seriously hurt them.

Best Friend? Thats a bit of a stretch. As an outsider I see very, very few Canadians that like America/Americans. The way people from Quebec look at the rest of Canada is the way Canadians look at Americans, with a large chip on their shoulders. Its even evident on this board, there is maybe 2-3 people out of hundreds that have a favorable disposition to the US. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of people back home that dislike the US too but they aren't neighbors and it doesn't come from a false sense of superiority (Aussies don't take themselves as seriously as Canadians I find)....
I think a lot of Canadians gulp down the media's kool-aid when it comes to understanding of day to day life.

Canadians characterize Americans as loud, selfish, materialistic, bullies who are focused on patriotism while being blind to international things. Many regions of Canada view other regions of Canada with similar levels of contempt.

Read thru the hundreds of ride reports you can find on this site that chart ride experiences through the USA, Western Canada, or Quebec -- see how many times people praise the experience and the interactions they had with locals. Then look at some of the political postings from those same people. Canadian dummies.

If you want to really understand Americans, spend time with them. You might find things surprisingly different than what you learned off CNN or Facebook-U.

The "scarier" it gets in the states, the further away from Conservatives people will flock...

PP's difficulty level just went from "Easy" to "Medium" and it might get harder if he's seen as someone who would support Trumpian policies, especially with the incessant talks of 51st state.
While as @Mad Mike pointed out, day to day we might be very similar, there are fundamental values (around healthcare, gun ownership, social interaction/politeness) that are not on the same level at all.

FWIW with only one exception (facilitated by my stupidity) I've never had a bad interaction with Yanks while travelling in the states.
When the Squeeze and I toured in the US on the Wing people were always friendly and willing to help. When ever we stopped and had the map out people would pull out their phone and try to help. (oddly we hardly ever got anything useful from these folks - most people cannot place themselves on a map - but they tried)

Most of the rest of Canada views Toronto with contempt... us with "the center of the universe" attitude and all... about the same as they look upon americans.

I don't know anyone that hates AMERICANS... it's America they hate. The people are nice enough, it's their government... the jingoism gets old quick though (Don't EVER try to tell an american THEY didn't win WW2, it won't go well).

I dunno, I feel these "views" are based on gossip, and they just live on as such because that's what people do. I've not met anyone who actually thinks these things. Yeah there is usually a idiotic outlier.

But I think everyone can agree we hate our gov, unless I'm the outlier here... 😅

Not sure about this. Methinks Canadians will pick a slugger over a hug-it-outer when the time comes.

I think his level of difficulty has remained the same.

You might not have a pan-Canadian view on that. step outside the GTA and have a chat about guns -- they don't scare most of the country. On health care. Have a chat about health care with my neighbor who spent 3 years hobbled while the system sorted out his knee surgery.

PP will be just fine -- there isn't enough time, cash, or maple syrup to make a Liberal superhero before the next election.

Were they doing that while waving around their Glocks or AR-15s?

I'm on my way south to get me another heaping shovelful of America. I might even try to fit in by drinking x-large sodas (diet), driving my neighbor's F250 dually to the grocery store, I won't worry about gas mileage on $2.50/gallon gas. I'll wear my flag-themed T-shirts when I'm fine dining at IHOP or Taco Bell. When my wife is shopping at Target, I'll be in the parking lot discussing freedom and where to find the best burger in the world - loudly with a few double-named rednecks.

I dunno I think before Trump reared his dumb tariff head, PP had a clear victory. This resurgence in Canadian pride, and the liberals electing a new leader, might invigorate the party and the public, and give PP a bit more of a race, while they pull on the national pride and distance themselves from Trump or anything like him.

Hopefully this is not the case and people are still fed up with the libs.

The better option would be to keep it. Once the dust settles (and the prices are higher) restock the shelves with old stock and let the distillers get no orders for X months from one of if not their biggest customers.

Jack Daniels = Kentucky ≠ Bourbon. It's sour mash.

This resurgence in Canadian pride
I think this is working against Canada to tell you the truth. The video of canadians Booing a 15yr old disabled girl is being played all over the states and making people who didn't have a stance on Canada actually want to see us hurt...

She is not disabled.

And I'm not for booing anthems, knee taking or flag burning as a form of free speech at sporting events.

I'm not saying it should be illegal, but I find it uncouth, disrespectful, and feel it sets the bar too low for Canadians.

They are - that's what makes them Americans!

Yup.

Maybe deep down Canadians are Anarchists? We seem to hate our own gov'ts too.

Remind them that they only won half of WWII and WWI. They lost the war of 1812. Korea is a truce. They couldn't win against Cuba with the Bay of Pigs incursion. They got tossed out of Vietnam and Afghanistan.

They did win the Civil War but it's hard to lose when you're fighting yourself.

They did win the revolutionary war, thank God, or we'd be stuck with them.
