Be ready to use it.
Was in gridlock traffic last night in Ottawa... I mean it took over an hour to go about 8km, down town by the Rideau center.
Coming up to an intersection, this BMW coming from the other direction decided to make a u-turn. (road is 2 lanes each direction). He can't make the turn and becomes STUCK in the middle of the road due to the traffic going behind him and the turn is too tight for him to make it... Basically a ****** bag move. We're all stuck in traffic buddy, deal with it.
So, I'm in the right lane, get a green light and manage to pass by the front of his car (he's blocking the left lane of my side and the other side). He honks at me, so I give him a polite one finger salute, and that's when traffic stops again. Dude starts yelling "something something tabernack something something" and gets out of his car with his wife yelling at him. It's dark out, he's in a black trench coat and I see him reach in... I'm thinking great here comes a gun... Pulls out a retractable baton, extends it and starts yelling, swinging this thing around. So I yell at the guy "get back in your F%*^& car you %*$^ moron" and he comes up to my window, trying to taunt me out of the truck, draws back and heads towards the back of my truck, to I assume start beating on it.
Put the truck in park, grabbed my door handle, locks pop up and interior lights come on, and then he realizes I'm calmly getting out of my truck... Then he scurries back in to his car, manages to reverse, puts it in drive, floors it aimed at my door, stops, reverses again, then pulls into traffic beside me.
Basically... If you ever pull out a weapon, be ready to use it. This guy obviously had no training with how he was swinging it around, and if he was trained he wouldn't bother with a weapon. All I had to do was rush the guy and there is no longer an advantage with what is in his hands and it's game over for the guy. He was hoping to intimidate me, and it didn't work. I just didn't want my new truck pounded on.
I did get on the phone with 911. The lady was more concerned I was safe, than she was in getting info on the guy, and said to call local police later when I got home. When I did get home and did call, they were surprised the dispatcher didn't send anyone out... So today I'm going to the station to report.
I have no issue with people having something like what he had for personal DEFENCE. But, he escalated so fast I hardly had time to expect it and he needs to be reprimanded for his attitude.
