Idiots lane splitting on the 401 E around Yonge tonight

Eventually they'll come across an insurance scammer or someone who just doesn't give a .

They don't seem to understand that when they split the back end of another vehicle with their knucklehead, they won't be lucid enough to give any kind of statement. In fact they probably will have to be told what happened.

If you can smarten even one of them up, then it's worth it. Thanks for speaking up.

A stranger on the internet isn't changing anyones behaviour

Great conversation on this thread! Thanks to all who have contributed (even the trolls!)

I have learned a few lessons in my 1,000,000+ km of driving experience...

  1. I am not as good as I think I am - I still make stupid mistakes. The difference is that experience has given me the ability to more quickly recognize when I have done something stupid and strive to not repeat these actions (or hopefully give me the wisdom to consider consequences and not proceed down the path that stupid decision will lead me in the first place.) The other part of this is that no matter how good I think I am, there are going to be times when another driver will do something so unexpected and so random that I may not be able to avoid unfavourable consequences that result from their actions. The chance of suffering these unfavourable consequences can me minimized by more closely following the norm (ie: expected behaviour) while on the road.
  2. There are many with whom I share the road who have questionable (or no) driving skills.
  3. Other drivers cannot be depended upon to make rational or expected actions. Many act in ways that seem totally random, which leads to a mantra of "expect the unexpected" while piloting my bike or my cage down the road.
  4. All actions have consequences. Good actions (such as being a responsible and safe rider) will minimize the possibility of suffering negative consequences. The farther one strays from "good actions" and expected norms of behaviour, the more severe the possible consequences can be.
  5. We are human - not immortal. In a split second, our lives can be ended or forever altered. The farther one strays from what is considered to be safe while driving, the greater the risk of experiencing that split second in time.
  6. Motorcycles are nothing more than machines that can be expected to experience mechanical failure - usually at the most inopportune time.

So, in light of all this, I had a great measure of fear that these lane-splitting riders were at a vastly increased risk of experiencing unfavourable consequences for both themselves, and other users of the road (including yours truly) due to their irresponsible actions.

The moral of the story is this... ride safe people! Save your risky behaviour for the track, where the consequences of your (or others) errors will not likely end up costing your life.

I had the same thing happen to me on 401 a few weeks ago on a sunday. Bunch of sport bikes including women, passing me in my own lane and using shoulder to ride past people.
Didn't understand why as there was no traffic and plenty of open left lanes to pass.
Unfortunately these people will never learn until something happens.
We can only try to be as safe as we can ourselves but idiots like this ruin it. I was inches away from being clipped off my bike because of some amateurish *********.

Stay the f*** outta my lane. I hate that

I Love posts like this!

I agree the riders were being idiots, but for someone who was breaking the law to complain about someone else breaking the law because it scared them is also stupid. the OP states traffic was moving at 120, that includes the OP. So you are only breaking the law a little? Does that make it ok?

I also do not like the image it gives to everyone else when riders ride like this, and I really do not like riding in the heavy traffic when I have cars traveling at 130 plus (And they do) and they cut in and out around me on my bike. But in the end I do not come on a public forum and complain about the driving of others, does no good, and makes you also look foolish since you were breaking the law as well in your cage and putting those of us trying to be responsible into danger.

Considering I've seen police pass me at 120 with no lights on when I was doing 100 in the right hand lane; Not trying to arrest the other folk who were going the same speed as they were, I think going 120 on the highway is less of an issue than people who are actively driving in a dangerous manner.

That was me, deal with it

What for some seems fast for others is safe.

If you get scared by traffic passing you (even unexpectedly) then you need to let go of your timmies coffee and donut and start paying attention, hell knows I was

have a nice day!

Breaking the law and being reckless are two different things so really, you have no point.

It seems you already know the differences between those two acts because as you point out, it's not riding at 120 along with the flow of traffic that's the problem.

So even in the end if you do not come on to public forums to complain about how others ride, you nonetheless come on to public forums to complain about what others post.

Not only is your attempt at discrediting the op's concerns because he was "breaking the law" by doing 120 along with the traffics flow insipid, you are also a hypocrite.

There's nothing wrong with the op's concerns or his post. The riders he described are *** wipes. We should all be concerned.

Just think of the children!!! We need to save everyone, watch your neighbours, report your spouses, remember Big Brother will protect you!

FYI it is the law for a reason, if you are breaking it you ARE being reckless.

As for what you wrote, WRONG.

What is safe for YOU might not be for someone else. There are people who even getting on a motorcycle is not safe.

Riding a motorcycle takes certain skills, riding wheelies takes certain skills, no different than other sports or activites, You will never see me on a balance beam doing back flips, I do not have the skill to do so, But you will find me on a track with a bike taking corners with a knee down, and straights as fast as the bike will allow. Those are things I have practiced and can do.

If you do not have the skill do not hate someone else for having it.

I already said I do not condone riding like that on the street, and I do not care what the police do either, does not make it right or safe for you to pass me on my bike with you in a cage doing 120 or faster just because everyone else does it. Must be with the amount of tow trucks sitting on the 401 not everyone can handle that either.

Lmfao pay attention?, when bikes are splitting lanes weaving in and out of traffic at high rate of speed the chances of seeing where and when one going pass inches from your windows screaming at 10000rpm (probably with an obnoxiously loud exhaust) is pretty hard. Unless your staring in your mirrors while driving forward in which case your just as reckless.

Bro, if the traffic is moving at 130km/h, you're actually more at risk doing 100, point in case if you suffering from having cars cutting in and out while you are riding.

Go with the flow. Don't worry about the posted limit, do what's safe and right for you.

Bunch of ****in hooligans on this site/in this city.

Sidenote: I once wheelied a segway whilst on the 401 doing 20km/hr and splitting transports, can I play too?

This thread is for real? There's people who think riding like a retard is acceptable? It's mind numbing to read some people's views. The world is going to hell and it's apparently starting on the 401

There's nothing unsafe about driving safely at 100 in the right hand lane. I do it all the time with no I'll affects. It's the idiots that think the middle lane is the driving lane that are creating dangerous situations.
