Theft is theft, covert recording of a person who's stealing, where they do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy, is not a criminal offence.

Leave a box of Tic Tacs on your desk that you put a dead cockroach in the bottom of the inside of it. After a few days, your thief will find it. If you are feeling particularly vindictive, put some rubber gloves on and roll the box around some poison ivy leaves first. Good clean family fun!

I think the OP just wants a little innocent revenge, not to lose his job. Revenge has to look like a accident. I'm thinking domino effect. Coin / gum casually placed on ruler that is actually a teeter totter. It flips and an old flourescent bulb gets nudged and falls on the floor, breaking into pieces. Or a bottle of water with a loose cap spills.

Yup, innocent revenge, not office politics that could get me in trouble. Must seem anonymous.

women can't resist chocolate. for bonus points get a co-worker to get rid of all the toilet paper in the washroom. if you're feeling extra cruel print out a bunch of "out of order" signs and place at all bathrooms in your workplace. won't be a good day for the thieves

Ohhhh I like this one. This is definitely one I'll add to the list. I'll have to test bait to see if chocolate is one of my thieves' tastes.

just put something sticky onto the bottom of the gum container ... so when they grab the gum they get some sticky fingers... if you can happen to make it white all the better, hahaha
