i wanna go for my first ride but not alone

Get a friend to tail you from a safe distance in a CAR. That will totally block anyone from getting behind you, and if you stall or anything they will block your embarrassed *** from view lol. Having a car behind you lets them "protect" you a lot easier and if you got a third friend, can film you from all angles =p

^ The problem is, when you can't 100% control your bike...you're not just putting yourself at risk but you could be putting others at risk, too.

To be clear, I'm not saying you shouldn't go learn on your own or start riding on your own but not every situation is the same.

And as a rider, you have to recognize your own capabilities or in this case, limitations. Someone who doesn't feel comfortable going out on their own initially is going to focus a lot more on that and panic when something goes wrong.

In some cases, having someone else to ride along brings that piece of mind that lets the rider concentrate on going from point A to B instead of "omg, everyone's honking at me, those cars are all passing me, i'm gonna get rammed from behind, ahh how to i get the bike started again?!!", etc, etc.
I guess different people think differently. Like you said, you are putting others at risk, hence, I would feel more comfortable if there is no one around to HIT! Now that I think about it, my first "crash" was at the M2 course when another rider lost control of her bike, got on the throttle and tboned me and my bike.....I was too inexperienced at the time to react fast and get out of the way. Me, other riders, and instructor being there sure as hell didn't make her control her bike any better. It's not like the other rider will be holding your hand while you learn. But if it somehow helps you psychologically I guess that's fine....we're all wired differently I suppose.

You could always ride with my friend - Jesus. Have you met him? If not, I would be happy to guide you to his friendship :D :D :D

Its me Jesus and if your comfortable enough to ride on the street i can lend a hand by sweeping/blocking for you, no need to worry about the route I will lend you my Sena so that i can give you instruction, tips and direction while riding.Bring ear plugs.
I may have time thursday night or saturday morning.

thanks all for ur replies. To me i feel there is a risk of going out alone the first time. but true as roasted said everyone is wired differently. Having someone there to block others would help a lot. practicing in a parking lot or empty roads is def the best way to learn especially when u wanna practice gear shifting and braking more.

jesus- i would like to go for a ride. im going out this weekend with 2 other riders but i will def msg u back about going together soon :)

dieselxx- congrats on ur new bike have fun with it and i will sure msg u to go out for a ride soon thanks a lot :)

I like Roasted got by bike in April after doing the course in September the previous year. A brand spanking new 600. My first ride I had my buddy riding behind me and we hit the country roads so I could get used to the bike and over the fear of being on the major roads.

That worked fine for me, stalled 3-4 times but it was good, being out there alone with mad cagers is scary, two bikes are easier to see than one (or so you would think).

ya two or 3 bikes r easier to see and make more noise so those crazy cages dont cut u off or share ur lane.

My $0.02 - I think you're right to look for other riders to go out with you, but I don't think it should be with another newbie.

Most of the concerns in the earlier posts from other members was more around your riding companion being equally as inexperienced as you. I'd highly recommend you go out with a rider more experienced than you, provided you guys set a couple of ground rules, such as:
- you set the pace, and the other rider agrees to ride at whatever pace you're comfortable with (riding "down to your level", so to speak)
- who leads and who follows
- hand/light signals in case something goes wrong or you need to stop
- etc etc

The advantage of going out with a more experienced rider is they may be able to better manage the situation in real traffic to help you out, and they can also watch the way you ride and provide coaching/feedback. I know I found this invaluable, from little things like forgetting to turn off my flashers to "hey, you did see that truck in your blindspot, right?"

Going out with another newbie...don't really like the "blind leading the blind" potential there =) I'd offer to ride with you, but I'm out of town for a couple weeks. If you're still looking for downtown riding companions come August, I'll be around.
