I refuse to wave to these two wheel up front trikes .

Dead Thread Revival - but apropos for the new riding season.

Technically, i'm no longer a motorcyclist. I haven't ridden road-legal since Oct 2010.

My garage currently holds one 'fully-enclosed' sidecar rig, with *gasp* car tyres on it. I've got a *horror* vintage scooter in there, also. There is a few other projects in there, also occupying space. The shame of it all, is a beater 4 wheeled ATV occupying a corner of the garage. They way i see it, i've got 2 x 2 wheelers in that.. all it would take is a sawz-all, to make it right in the OP's world!

I had been riding since 1987. The amount of two and three-wheelers in my garage over the past 25 years has been myriad and numerous.

The two other three-wheelers (sidecar rigs) that i had, were a matter of choice, not circumstance.

The sidecar rig in the garage now, was a circumstance of one situation (wrecked bike converted over, vs scrapped) now changed to a different situation (health issues keeping me off a solo bike for remainder of life-time).

Would i have considered the can-am 'tadpole trike' as an answer to my physical disabilities? If it meant getting back on the road, in a fricken heart-beat. Two things prevent a can-am from landing in my garage - a slumbering sidecar rig in the garage already, just requiring a reversing gear modification, and $25k cash that i don't have for a can-am.

2014 is the year i bring the sidecar rig out of slumber, break out the instruments of modification, and get it ready hopefully for a new season of riding in 2015.. if i am ready to be able to do so.

Judge not why that person is riding what he or she is riding - you just may not be capable of understanding. The need to have the knees out in the windstream, is not contingent upon what you ride..

TL;DR: it's not what you ride, it's that you ride. OP, hopefully you've got over yourself by now, are enjoying the new riding season, and are waving to everyone regardless of circumstance or wheel configuration.

I am very happy with myself .

Thanks .

Does not change my view of Cam-am style cars .

Sorry for you situation . In the future once my age/health prevents me riding on two wheels.I may have to resort to a trike .But in no way will I be delusional that a Cam-am is a bike .

I`m not sure if i mentioned this before but scooters and ebikes are out too . I`m just a hater .LOL

They say that if you say "Burgman" 3 times in a dark room facing a mirror, The Macdoc will appear.

Lol, I do agree that e-bikes and scooters do not count as motorcycles. However I will wave at trikes, no problem there.

I wave at any rider who waves at me. We are all in this sport/hobby/lifestyle/fraternity/whatever together. The more riders out there the more gear being sold, more bikes being sold, dealerships getting supported etc. Those on the trikes are still buying gear and the sale of that trike helps keep that dealership open etc.

The only thing that bugs me are the ebikes. Not the Brammo/Zero stuff; I think those are cool and might be an interesting alternative/future for us. What bugs me right now is the impasse going on with the ebikes. Some look like a full blown scooter; yet when you get closer to it the "rider" heads off onto the sidewalk like a bicyclist would. If I were a scooter rider/enthusiast I would be going nuclear about this situation.

I could care less what another rider rides; so long as they ride. Whether you ride a sport bike, sport tour, adventure, scooter, trike, cruiser, standard, bobber, cafe racer... I will wave at you and gladly share a coffee with you to learn about your bike, where you have ridden etc.

You might see this weird assortment of bikes around from time to time:

We are all truck drivers/ex truck drivers who like to ride so we ride together even though our bikes are quite different.

I've never understood the snobbery based on what you're riding. Unless you're talking e bikes. **** them :D

Waving's the easy part, 2 or 3 seconds of discomfort. It's when a tricyclist wants to interact socially that things become awkward.

wow.... Do you wave to a 5yr old kid if she's waving at you waiting to cross an intersection?

Not waving doesn't have anything to do with motorcycle... it totally has to do with your attitude.

By the way, when I'm out in the remote areas and see the odd cyclists tugged in and giving it all going 60km/h, I wave at them too

These things have nothing to do with motorcycles .They where invented for people that generally never rode motorcycles .They take up as much of a lane as a car .I don`t get why they wave to us ?I don`t get car drivers waving to me .

Just beacuse you wear a helmet you are not a motorcyclist . Wave to your own(or to other cars ) !

Just walk away, they cant follow you........ yeah I know, I'll get my hat and show myself out.

The can-am spyder is a properly engineered trike.
I'll argue the can-am is more of a bike than those conversion thingys either the HD or Hondapotamus.
2 wheels steering up front provides better steering and stability.
With the opposite you get 1 wheel trying to fight the 2 rear wheels. That the perfect condtion for understeer.
If I ever have to ride one of these things I'd rather ride the one than can get around conors.
But to each their own.

I'm sure the Op just has a chip on his shoulder from all the HD snobs that don't think that his VROD isn't a real HD.

I'm so glad folks proclaim their waving criteria here and what they consider a "real" rider worthy of a wave.......lol

Who cares who is waving at whom?

If you were a real rider, you know that nodding is what matters.

I'll wave to any bike or anyone who waves at me. We are all the same.

And you never know when you may need someone. This weekend my battery died and luckily a fellow rider was there to give a push start. He was riding a cruiser... But in my eyes I don't see any difference.

A whole thread about waving. And one older than a day. Good lord.
