I like this alarm...

Re: If I owned this forum...

I read the entire thread and remain unconvinced that this alarm is different than other alarms. Nor are the thieves of my bike different than other thieves. Except that one that got injured. He just made a mistake and needs hugs to make up for it.

Re: If I owned this forum...

What's the range on the alarm? I ask because many thefts are in condo buildings....if your bike is on P2 or P3 of a parking garage, and you live on the 10th+ floor....will the notification ever get to you?

Wondering the same. My bike is in P3 and I live in the middle of a 40+ floor building. I doubt any of these alarms would reach me.

(Not that I'm currently worried about theft. But I wouldn't sleep well if I got a new bike.)

Quick GTAM history lesson.....

This site was created for riders. not to preach any beliefs that are taken to heart. It was and still I a free site! Alarms don't interest me and I believe in a good punch to protect your stuff, if you're more concerned with theft than ridin..makes you a poseur imho.

While I agree with your statement....you can't punch someone if you're not around to see them trying to take your stuff...similar to this alarm and others...if it doesn't work through concrete / cement / walls .... useless.

These thieves are for the most part knowledgeable and aware that bikes will have alarms. They'll have it disabled before the thing notifies anyone enough to actually come take a look.

Our society is so used to car alarms and the like that it doesn't even register. I hear alarms all the time, and 99% of the time it's activated by the owner and turned off within a few seconds. Could be theft, or could be the owner turning off the alarm...don't know. My vehicles are all insured, so I can sleep at night well...

Re: If I owned this forum...

so let me get this straight, you decided not to buy a bike because one insurance company wont insure it????? did you ever think to go check a different insurance company?

you think that wheel lock alarm is so loud? wrap a pillow around it and let us know how loud it is then
Only one insurance company in Ontario is insuring MV Agusta. I'll leave it to you to find which one. This spells disturbing trend as TD isn't exactly the smallest insurance company around. They're one of the largest. 2015 is a banner year for superbike releases. But what if no insurance companies will touch them? That reality has begun with TD. So the "F it, my bikes are insured" statement is hurting us all. See the Baron video, he's one well respected dude.

I'm willing to bet that the thieves lurking on the forum have taken your post as a challenge and are currently tracking you down.

Re: If I owned this forum...

One mile. I'd do the distance test in a condo tho due to the obvious concrete obstruction.

I'd recommend that you do test this in a condo just to be sure. As for 1 mile it's probably clear line of sight, perfect conditions type of thing. But it's still quite the range.

Patiently waiting for video of hot blonde stealing your bike...

I agree. This forum has gone downhill due to lack of discussion. My feeling is that good people come here to have those discussions but they leave quickly as they read the overpowering fatalistic negative Ned responses to just about everything. Makes me wonder how these people get up and face the world each day. People are hardwired to avoid negativity, so they move on to another forum. This forum used to be a blast. But all the fun positive people left after several large disappointments, and the negative members remained. You positive guys in the background have to start calling them out and posting more. It makes them go quiet. The forum needs your balance.

Re: If I owned this forum...

So, uh, back (sort of) on topic...what's everyone's thoughts on a stealth GPS tracking device instead of (or perhaps along with) other anti theft tactics?

I'm of the mentality that if someone wants something bad enough they'll take it no matter what you do. In that case, being able to tell the police where it is stands a lot better chance of you ever seeing your bike again.

SMS based GPS trackers can be had for $10-$40 on eBay depending on how many features you want. Wire it into the battery, hide or well somewhere, pop in a SIM card with unlimited texting for $15/month during the riding season and it sure seems like a great solution. Take the bike if you will, but surprise surprise...I'm watching on my iPhone.

As Joe said, the real thieves have jammers for these GPS units and then again....what good is a GPS unit for as soon as you get underneath a bridge / parking garage the signal goes dead.

Best theft advice to anyone, properly insure your motorcycle.

I have no interest in buying or insuring an MV Agusta, and I dont think companies will stop insuring SS bikes because a few get stolen, they may stop insuring them because many dumb AZZes crash them tho.

did you call your insurance company to inform them that you lock you bike with this magical lock? if so, did they offer you a discount on your premiums?

I've moved this to the appropriate forum and added a relevant title.

If I liked this alarm. I'd buy it, then shut up about it.
