I always felt flying is too cheap....

Yes it is. I just checked some other options for Aug 2025....12k....with 2 layovers.
Very popular place to layover, the Blue Lagoon is nearby (natural hot springs). But depending on time of year, expect there to be people and it's not 'cheap'. Otherwise scooting into town to kill some time is completely doable and it's a nice place to visit.

Slightly off tangent….looking to go to Poland in 2025 and right now I’m seeing 10k for tickets alone.

Anyone flow Iceland air out of Hamilton. Apparently they’re a bit ‘no frills’ but have good pricing, albeit potentially long layover.
Yikkies! I take it for the whole family.
The only way is to book several months in advance. You can look at google flights as base idea of cost, and if you can fly out on different days for a bit less. Some routes are on a loop, you might figure out which day the fly in an out of and match the return.
Obviously summer is probably going to be more expensive, and they may not have released all the seats right now. So you may pay higher prices now then later.
It's F'in rigged.

When booking flights always clear cookies constantly when looking at rates, visiting the same site over and over. Some sites will keep jacking up the costs as you keep searching them. Clear cookies and you are back to the lower rates. We have seen this many times, you are looking for flights and "cheap" seats are now all gone. Someone else looks up the same flight and cheap seats are still there... clear cookies and they all come back. Obviously shifty and not all do it.

You migh be looking in the wrong places. Round trip prices for May-June 2025, Toronto to Warsaw from Expedia.

Icelandic used to lowball you on the price of the flight but there was usually a few day layover in a very expensive place. It was the gov's sneaky way of boosting tourism. It's a cool place, and I don't know if they still do that.

That's a great marketing idea. Unless I was planning on weeks of vacation though, I wouldn't want to burn more than a day on each leg. Redeye in, redeye out gives me time to explore, buy some food and get back through security during the layover and doesn't cost me that much time as I arrive at my destination in the morning instead of the evening before.

I did that a lot in the early 90s.

Iceland Air offered cheap flights from JFK to several points in Europe that connected through RKV. You could layover up to 2 weeks in Iceland, and the ticket price included 1 free hotel night in Reykjavík.

I avoid 50 min layers, too many things can go wrong. 2hrs is the sweet spot (imo), allows for unexpected issues and you're not running for the transfer.

Ya I'm seeing that. All over EU is so much cheaper than Poland.

Warsaw airport has become a hub to the middle east / ukraine and beyond. The planes are jammed basically every flight.

Not sure WTF is going on...they reduced their flights, but during the summer there are typically 2 flights / day and every single one of them is at capacity.

Can you fly to a country close and take a train or rent a car

Skiplag with the whole family. It would be interesting to see pricing for that and whether TOS prohibit it.

I could...but with 3 little kids...I just want to get to Warsaw. If it was just wife and I (or me) I'd fly to Frankfurt and rent a car. It's a 7hr drive.

There's really no connection city I can stop at that has a less than 8hr drive to my home town.
