I always felt flying is too cheap....

I hate AC for a variety of reasons , but that last strike settlement has left them looking to recover some money .
Just charge we what it costs to fly , maybe enforce your own rules ( purse the size of a duffle bag , carry on the size of a suitcase ) , and give me a plane that doesn’t get cancelled .

Air Canada will start to charge for carry on luggage on their lowest fares. In a way I accept this because people are taking it too far with the size of carry on baggage growing...

This is for within the Canada / US / sunny destinations.
The stupid huge carry-ons are infuriating as are the people that put everything they carry into overheads and have zero concept of packing so they use up three seats worth of overhead. Overhead should have seat numbers. If your crap doesn't fit in your section, it goes by your feet or gets gate-checked. Do better next time. Same as the people that think they are more important than zones. If you get to the gate agent before you zone is called, they should move you into a queue to board after absolutely everybody else. Entitled pricks.

Quantas used to weigh carry-on (and maybe still does, I haven't been back for years). Limit for lowest fares was something like 7 lbs. Lots of people in tears at the gate as they realized their stupid wheelie carry-on bag weighed more than 7 lbs when empty.

I fly from Toronto to Vancouver often... Usually on WestJet, but on occasion and as a last resort, Air Canada
Both carriers don't charge veterans, or serving CAF members for checked bags, so me no even pay for that.
As far as carry on goes...
99% of the time these flights are full and because too many people want to "carry on" their bag, bin space is at a premium.
'Last half dozen trips they were begging people to check their carry on... For free.
There have been times I just didn't feel like fighting for bin space so I went up to the boarding and volunteered to check my carry on.
They're more than happy to do it. No charge.

If anyone here is a veteran or serving CAF... All you need is your VSC or your mil. ID.
You will have to check in at the airport, but... No fees for your bags. Dig around the Carriers website, policy is there.

This I don't understand... Why the f*** do you want to be the fist to board..?
What... and sit there for 20 min while the rest of the passengers shuck and jive to get to their seats..?
F*** that.
Key is to be the last one on.
Make an entrance!

Only reason to board first is the dillholes who put their giant carry on and personal item in the bin and fill it up.

As SS said, the entitled pricks inflict chaos on others with no qualms. I've seen them put their bags in the first row overhead so they didn't need to carry them all the way to their seat. That means the last person on the plane may end up with their bags at the back so they have to wait for everyone to deplane to get them. Almost all the time they put the suitcase in width wise instead of lengthwise. Almost all the time thy put their personal bag up too. Almost all the time they put up their sweater, coat, etc. Each dillhole fills an entire bin that is supposed to accommodate three seats. Honestly, when people do that, they should just escort them off the plane and get them to watch a one hour video on rules, common courtesy and the effects of their selfish actions on others before they are allowed to book a new seat.

Only reason I want to be on first is to have space for my carry on. Besides that I don’t care.

Travelling with kids helps. Always second inline after the elderly and those needing assistance.

I have seen on multiple occasions flight attendants call and ask whose bag that is.

If no one claims it within the rows nearby they take it out and make space for those in the area.

Always hilarious when some idiot from the back comes and starts looking for the bag.

‘We called the owner and since no one came we checked it down below’

It's just so easy to put seat number stickers in the bins. If your bin has something in it that isn't yours, FA gate checks it. Done. Problem entirely solved in a few flights. There are a few edge cases that require some flexibility where overhead bins are full of plane stuff and therefore the seat underneath does not have a bin. I almost always fly with a soft carryon so the bin I use could hold more than the three bags it is supposed to hold.

I wish they would simply enforce the size allowance for carry on prior to boarding. I know the gate personal deal with a lot of cranky travellers but, it’s also part of the job.

I have a standard carry on bag and laptop bag. It’s not clear if I book economy comfort if I can still bring carry on as well as personal item? Seems like economy comfort allows for two checked bags. I don’t want to check bags.

When I come across the only fit sideways oversized carry on bags I just turn them the right way and put mine beside it. The overhead bin won't close now so it forces the flight attendant and owner to deal with it before departure.
****
Personally I hate flying these days. I had a women behind me that kept shoving stuff beside my seat, she was jamming stuff hard under my seat and the usual pushing on the seat. Then I noticed a jacket on the floor below my feet! So I just kept rubbing and grinding my shoes on it, etc. When we got to YYZ I realized it was my jacket and I had put it on the floor at my feet and forgot....

Most planes do not have enough overhead bin capacity to have a spot for every seat, unless they dramatically reduce overhead bin luggage size. It will also be worse on the airlines that reduce seating pitch to get more cattle on.

While the metal cages are slow and a pain to use, pushing the carryon through a slot as you are entering the ramp could work. It wouldn't solve everything but it is fast and 90% of the people carrying suitcases and pretending they are carryon would get rejected by the slot.

Even more reason to proactively ***** slap people putting more than one item up. You brought it on board, one goes up, you sit with the rest.

lately I'm seeing a big surge in "handicap" passengers , they roll up to the gate in a golf cart, unload a walker . Ten minutes later you see them sprint to Starbucks , back to the walker for front of line seating , boggie off the plane at the other end and pile into a waiting golfcart. Most of them could outrun me.

My mother uses that service and yes, I’ve seen people abuse it also. I wait with her until they show up to get her and can see others are abusing it.

Can’t call them out because you know…discrimination.

I had that happen to me a while back in Frankfurt.

The bag fit INTO the space…it just didn’t come out without some nudging.

gate agent took the bag and checked it for free at least.
