I wonder why they just didn't split up? just a thought.

Yes your are Probally right that distracted driving causes most accidents. But how many drivers where distracted by these guys doing wheelies. Thats part of the problem with doing them in heavy traffic.

Who the hell does wheelies in heavy traffic?

If somebody actually does a wheelie in heavy traffic, lives, and gets home, he should be renamed "Ghost Rider #2" and be paid **** tons of cash.

Maximum penalty involves a possible 6 months in jail. Possible maximum penalty for running, just running, is up to 5 years in prison.

Not gonna argue that you aren't upping the ante, it certainly raises the risk/reward quite a bit. Just saying you apparently can be criminally charged without running.

I disagree completely.

Texting takes your eyes and attention away from the road. Wheelies do no such thing.

The number of accidents caused by distracted drivers/riders must be 10000x that of accidents caused by wheelies. And at the end of the day, the guy doing a wheelie will likely only hurt himself.

No comparison.

Really? on a 400 series doing 165kph, and likely followed by cars and having cars in the lane beside him, i'm not so optimistic that it would only hurt himself.

I'm not as brave as most of you here. if i see 4 guys doing wheelies at 165 beside or in front of me, I would be scared no matter if i'm in a cage or on my bike, unless i personally know them and trust their riding skills. I wouldn't blindly say wheelies are relatively safe without even knowing who the rider is.

It was 4:05 pm and Saturday of a long weekend. Of course it was heavy traffic.

I disagree to an extent, if I'm in my car I couldn't care less, worst case scenario they drop it and I run over them...

On my bike I'd back off and change lanes.

Bet $50 you've never done a wheelie.

Whether or not they are bad laws or good laws or something in between is irrelevent. We all know the rules and potential consequences.

Do the crime then be prepared to do the time whether judicial or last rites. Quit whining when you get caught.

+10000.

sorry you signed up for it when you decided to do such things. if the law makes sense or not is irrelavent, and if there are more bad cage drivers than motrocyclists is also irrelavent.

plus i thought they made the charge more harsh on using hand held devices? i see the warnings on the electronic boards on highway all the time, and sometimes the boards say giving motorcycles enough space. i thought that was cute.

i think that depends on what type of driver each individual is. i know myself, and i know this is not what i'm supposed to do in such situation but my instinct would be braking hard or swerving to avoid running over a person so i may get severely rear ended or hit by cars from the other lane. some people even have hard time running over a little animal, let alone if you see a person going down and falling right in front of you... it's hard to say what people would decide to do in a split second...

Actually I drove right by these guys on the HWY. Traffic was pretty light for a weekend and almost non-existent for a long weekend. We even joked about it saying "Wow nothing better to do for those 3 officers then harasss a bunch of sport bikes" in hindsight looks like they may have deserved it...lol

Provincial Offences act and jail, vs. Criminal Code of Canada and prison?

Repossess their bikes and put them in the crusher, then ban the riders from having a motorcycle license in Ontario for life. Might help some of the meatheads who do that kind of thing get the point.

^ yeah I bet you never broke any HTA laws on that VMAX of yours right? Im sure you putter around at 99km/h at all times

When I was doing my "way too much fun" rides, that was the rule, to split up.

It's relatively easy to get away from the cops, if you use your head. The chase needs to be short, and you need to really know the area.

But, if you were using your head I guess you wouldn't get chased anyways.

There is a time and a place to do this sort of riding... And that wasn't it.

Wheelies are great with a bit of common sense, the 50 over law I hate, scrap the law and make it compulsory for people to ride a motorcycle for 1 year before getting a car liscense ,speed limits on highways out of the city should be raised.Motorists should be ticketed for not pulling right or impeding traffic flow.

..yeah seriously, why do you have a VMAX?

LOL make motorcycles compulsory

I agree with the rest though.

HTA172 was passed on the heels of a street racing death at the height of the Fast/Furious craze, and we all bent over and took it like the nice little Canadians that we are.

I wonder what percentage of charges are ACTUAL street racing? What a joke... and some people here actually support it

Most people who have ridden bikes are far better car drivers,I know it will never happen but a graduated licence, motorcycle before car would great
